I’m a single mom, working night shift as a county jailer. I’m trying to take it day by day and remember this is only temporary. But I miss my son at night. I miss falling asleep holding his little hand. He has slept with me since he got out of the crib…he falls asleep holding my hand and touching my face. In order to take him to school and be there to pick him up and do dinner and bath time…I had to work night shift. I haven’t been here long enough to request morning shift. I keep telling myself to just get through this and as soon as I can I will apply for morning shift so I can be there all the time (he will be at school in the mornings)
Sometimes I look back and don’t feel regret but wish I had lived my life differently. I wished I would’ve finished college before I had him like I was supposed to. So I’m not stuck working crappy schedules to put food on the table and not able to be there for him like I want to be. He stays with my mom at night. I want to be able to drop my baby off in the mornings and pick him up from school and go night night with him too. I miss him..on my days off he goes with his dad. I can’t help but look back and wish I would’ve done better.
I’m still going to finish school..but by the time my life turns out the way it should have..he will be older..and I feel so much guilt for not being ready before having him. I know it’s not that deep but he deserves so much more than a struggling mother whose unhappy with her life. Yes it can always be fixed, but he shouldn’t have had to go through it with me at all💔
There’s so much more to the story that I don’t have time to tell, that he shouldn’t have had to endure with me. He deserves the perfect life…and mommy’s working on it baby. ❤️

i relate to just about everything your feeling, aside from the details of your job, we just gotta keep doing our best, hang in there🫶

It sounds like your doing what you need to, and that's amazing! And enough! I get the regret. But this is your life now and you can only do your best and it sounds like you are. Your there all afternoon. But it does suck that you don't get to be with him in the night!
I hope you get approved for morning shifts as soon as you can, it sounds like it be amazing for not only you mentally but for your son as well! Maybe you'll have another baby and you can then be there for nights for them?
I know it won't replace time with your 1st born. But your best is enough
