I’m so upset. I had my little girl 10/10. I don’t know if it’s my pediatrician or if it’s me. I have been breast feeding my daughter every 3 hours. It has been exhausting. On 10/13 we went to her first pediatrician appointment. She was 17 percent below her birth weight. Or however they measure it. It honestly confuses me. But I just know it’s 17% below what she needs to be. Then today we had another pediatric appointment to check her weight. Now she is 11% below what she needs to be at? Now we have to go back on Thursday for another appointment. To hope she has gained a little more than she already has. But after getting up every 3 hours and trying my very best to get her to eat. Plus changing her and trying to get her back to sleep after feeding her. It’s just so exhausting and if I’m not even helping her, as the pediatrician seems to be saying. Why am I even trying? Like maybe I should just switch to formula. I’m just so upset.

It’s so hard. I’m right there with you

I do both breast feed and formula it helps my baby sleep through the nights better as well.

has it hurt your babies stomach at all?

It's normal for babies to lose up to 10% of their birth weight. So, pediatrician was probably concerned about the 17% drop at 3 days old. But, next check up was 11% down. Which means baby still isn't at original birth weight, but has at least gained since 10/13.
If you truly want to continue breastfeeding, keep at it! See if baby continues to gain. If you feel like it's too much for you, formula is always there.

I breast feed and pump at the same time so I have extra for when she gets hungry again! It’s exhausting but it works! You can try it or ask the pediatrician what they recommend

I breastfeed and pump she have her first appointment Wednesday and I’ll see how’s that’s been doing… you’re doing the best you can if you feel like breastfeeding alone is not enough try to pump too so you can have extra good luck mamas

see I could do research and maybe find a good one. But the lactation consultant at my hospital that I delivered is a no for me. I asked to see her 3 times. She only came and saw me the last 10 minutes before we were about to leave the hospital. Most of the time she talked about how young I looked and said odd comments about how people shouldn’t have kids unmarried. Which were all assumptions on her part because I have been married for 6 years and I’m 25. (Not that I care either way about being married or not) but my point is she was super rude. So I would have to try to find someone else. I am not using her.

not at all. I do more breast milk than formula.

I agree with this comment!! I do this as well if needed but ask your babies dr first

You don't have to give up completely. Maybe just top of with some formula until you guys get to a good place. No pressure mama ❤️
