I want to cut my 10 months off breastfeeding, she was exclusively breastfed and turns a year in December so I wanted to start weaning her off now so I can be completely done by December. She still nurses about 3 times at night and and 3-4 during the day. Please let me know what helped. She’s never taken a bottle and doesn’t drink water at all. She refuses a straw cup and spits out the water. I’m drained. She’s a horrible sleeper & eater.

I would say ask a Dr what to do

So as a person who had a child like this and a breastfeeding journey like this no bottles anything. I had to get my first to use a cup and I had to withhold breastfeeding as much as possible and get her to just eat more actual foods instead. For me it was closer to a year old cold Turkey. I would pump and mix breast milk into foods so I knew she was getting that too. Not sure if it was the “best” way but it was the only way for us.
so you went cold turkey? How was your child at night ? Did they accept a cup eventually? How old was your baby?

Yes. I refrained from just feeding her how 5-6 times during the day (comfort feeding) and the few times at night. It’s been a few years but I started out with breast milk in the cup trying to get her to use. And they get hungry enough they give in. It’s a hard long process and the fact you’re starting early is good. Yes they accepted a cup and i started this process around 11 1/2 months but could’ve done sooner. It took about 3 weeks to say bye to breastfeeding all the way.

I breastfed consecutively for 3 years with my oldest and am currently in the thick of breastfeeding my 1.5 year old. Stopping with the first was harder, i didn’t know what to do or how to help her. Like Taylor mentioned having her already on a normal cup for drinking helped a lot, but you have a 10 month old. So having something to help her replace the milk is important too! With mine i wanted to do extended breastfeeding so by the time she was ready and I was ready for her to be done she was super attached. I used the vinegar method! I put the smaller dab of vinegar on my nipple and the smell itself made her stop. - Move her first to drop her day feeds. Once you ease her out of those feeds she’ll be ready to move into dropping night feeding as well. Its easier when they’re eating more normal food and getting their fill. But side note: if she is refusing… don’t force her, she may not be ready & i know that it’s so exhausting and so difficult , but forcing her will make it harder.

I am dealing with the same thing with my 13 month old. I’ve bought 10 different bottle and about 6 different sippy cups. It’s extremely stressful. And I start back to work next month

Mom of 2 here. I didn’t breastfeed either but I did have to cold turkey the formula because my pediatrician said by 1 years old no more formula. In that process we stayed busy, park, zoo, errands (letting him walk around the store), and offering water with ice in a sipping cup. I think my little guy love the noise the ice made and wanted to be apart of that.
I have a 10 month old now and we are starting to cut back on her formula. She drinks water throughout the day because that’s what I have available for her. She gets fussy but I still offer water. Water is so important especially when they get older. I meet adults who hate drinking water that’s crazy to me.
Im proud to say my kids only drink water and formula for the month old.

My daughter is 2.5 still going so here for tips
