Hi! My little one just started nursery and they don’t want me to send breast milk with her to have during the day and I’m not sure what to do ? I work three days a week so 4 days out of 7 she still gets breast milk roughly every 4-5 hours + at nap time and bedtime and over night.
Do you guys pump and bring to nursery or do you just not give them milk the days they’re at nursery ?
She only started last week so I’ve only had 3 full days without giving her milk so far.
I also don’t want my supply to drop as I am planning on breastfeeding until she’s at least 18 months.

The nursery should accommodate and refrigerate your breastmilk for her, they aren’t the ones who get to say if she does or doesn’t have it that’s bizarre. What reasoning have they given? At our nursery they provide whole milk but if you want baby to have breastmilk or formula then they accept that and do it.
On supply, if you don’t want it to drop you should pump each time she normally feeds :)

I know, it’s a bit rude I think ? But when we had the settling in sessions they said not to bring any in .. As she is over 1 year old and ‘doesn’t need it’

That’s shocking! It’s entirely the parents choice so stand your ground if you want her to have it. They’ve only got to put it in the fridge and potentially warm it if she has it warm it’s hardly a lot of work 😅
Every nursery I viewed was accommodating with storing breastmilk in the day. The flip side is for you, if she is content at nursery and sleeping without having the breastmilk, you could choose to roll with that and reduce the amount of milk she has on her days with you too, but that’s a personal choice and only you will know if you’re both ready for that

this is wild, I would switch nursery - sorry you’re experiencing this!!

I'd be looking for a new nursery, there is absolutely no reason for this. I can guarantee they give cows milk to the other kids, why can't they give her the breastmilk at the same time. My 2 yo still takes breast milk in his back pack enough for his cereal and a small cup with his afternoon snack (working through freezer stash)

They should be accommodating to you, not you accommodating to them!
I’d consider switching, sorry it’s not ideal but if they are refusing to do what you want with YOUR child then i wouldn’t be happy. My eldest (2.5) is in nursery and started at 17 months and they just said bring a preferred cup/bottle that he uses if we still wanted to give him milk x

I pump and send fresh or frozen milk to nursery but we’ve started to try oat milk now too upon my request.
I find it really odd they don’t allow you to send breastmilk?

Unreasonable that they won't let you send milk if you really feel strongly about it.
I work three days a week now and still breastfeed but she has oat milk when at nursery alongside food and only has BM in the morning, before bed and overnight (she also adds one when she first sees me in the afternoon on collection as she gets upset otherwise). These three drinks are decent length and you can tell she's drinking a lot. This is the same on work or non work days (although I do feed on demand - within reason - on my off days). To pump whilst working and to get a decent enough supply pumping (as you pump less than they feed in amounts) seemed quite stressful so we went for this way.
We've been breastfeeding for so long now, our supply really shouldn't be impacted by a gap in the day anymore. Your body just learns it's usual times of feeding and adjusts accordingly.

I had the same experience with nurseries I viewed in London, they were all super accommodating and it was completely my choice. This one not so much …. (We recently moved to Buckinghamshire)

And they’re fine with that? I don’t understand why it wouldn’t be ok when they give cows milk or oat milk or what ever to the other kids … Unfortunately we only have one full time nursery in the village we’ve moved to :/

A little update from today - I decided to pump yesterday during the day and I sent it with Charlotte to nursery today. I kindly asked them to give some to her at a time that was suitable for them during the day. I also sent a little cup if she doesn’t want the bottle as she’s not used to bottles.
And they started by saying no over and over again and ‘it’s not something we do’ ‘it’s not recommended’ and if I want Charlotte to have breast milk I have to formally request in an email to the management…
It made me feel absolute shit and I’m now so upset. It doesn’t help that I’m already upset about leaving her all day !!

Well, they've forced your hand then... Email management and put the link for NHS website where BM is recommended up to two years old... Whilst your little girl could potentially get through the day without BM and be okay, if it's reassuring for you and there as comfort for her, there's no reason why not. Just bizarre they're so opposed to be honest.

@Viktoria they absolutely support it, he has been going since 9 months old and he has had breastmilk every single day! Other children started later and also come with their own milk. When he first started I used to pop in to breastfeed him after lunch...
I'd send a formal email to management as they have said, can you look into childminders in the area? Or even just outside of the area? We moved house but kept our boy in the nursery as its so good it's ofsted outstanding and won multiple awards for different things xx

ah sorry, that must make things really difficult and can imagine you’d feel terrible.
I think if you can, look for somewhere else. I know easier said than done. If they’re not accommodating with something that is the norm, it makes you wonder what else they wouldn’t want to help with xx
Also strange they don’t think it’s normal when it’s a very normal thing and your own choice 😞

My friend who has always exclusively breastfed was worried as her boy had never taken a bottle or drank cows milk however when he went to nursery he drank it which she did not think he would in a million years!
Might be that if you’re not there he will take cows milk from them so maybe try it for a day or 2 and then if he’s still refusing then have a conversation with them?
Is this your worry or is it that you’d just prefer to keep him on breastmilk for now? Xx
