I've seen in supermarkets they do 4m+ pouches. Does this mean my 4 month old can try them? She can sit up in her high chair and is good at sitting up on my lap, has good head control and I've also tried practicing her with a spoon and she puts it to her mouth, does this mean she could be ready to start weaning? Or should I speak to the health visitor?
On her last weight in the health visitor said that her growth development had slowed down, she's weighed again next week, I mentioned that she does bring her milk up quite a bit and she's more sick than not, HV said that it's not a concern at this point. I'm worried she's not getting all the nutrients from her milk due to how much she is sick, so wondering if I could start weaning.
Thanks ❤️

If she shows signs that she is ready then he’s ! My little boy loves the pouches he’s also 4 months old and been on them since the day he turned 4 months one a day at lunch time xx

Yes! Not he’s lol x

Signs are , putting things to her mouth , sitting up , being hungry after a feed or being extra hungry and being able to open her mouth when you put spoon up to it (this is what my health visitor had told me) xx

I would ask the health advisor if your little one has reflux this could make it worse

@Polina each time I've mentioned it they fob me off lol, I even asked about tongue tie due to her not latching properly on her bottle. I'm going to speak to them about it again next week x

thank you! Xx

No worries , you know your baby best , even if she tried a spoonful you will know if she’s ready or not , good luck 😊. Xx

They're legally able to market them at 4 months although I'm not sure why as al guidelines say not to give food until 6 months. I think they're just trying to get more money out of parents if I'm honest! It's bad for their digestive systems to start too soon so unless a doctor advises you to give food early (usually as reflux is worse than introducing solids) then I'd wait.

sorry to jump on your comment but may I ask where you have heard this? A dr at MMTW hospital has told me weaning at 4 months is completely fine and very common and does no harm? When I took my lb for chest infection. Xx

it's quite outdated advice to wean from 4 months. It's been the recommendation to wean from 6 months for most babies for at least 10 years. There's lots of info about it online but this might be helpful. I don't think it's necessarily something you'd notice straight away but early weaning has been linked to adult gut issues, obesity and allergies. It's a super long term thing though so tricky to pull out the exact causes. I'm always more than happy to wait as six months is the recommended age.

this 👏🏻
It’s why so many adults have digestive issues because parents started solids too early!

this makes so much sense my partner was given baby rice at 6 weeks old now he has terrible stomach issues😭 im waiting till 6 months mainly because I cannot cope with the purées they make me feel sick, I’m just gonna do baby led weaning😂

My little one had bad reflux she was on the medication (tears, screaming and refusal every feed) but since turning 4 months they had us wean her off the medication and start solids early, as it can help them keep things down so definitely chat to the doctor about potentially starting solids at 4 months if your bubba is showing readiness - it may actually improve the situation. Our little one still vomits but it doesn’t seem to bother her now she has started solids.
In regards to vomiting as long as bubba isn’t in pain and is gaining weight appropriately they tend to keep away from offering medication as it can have quite yucky side effects for them. ❤️❤️
