Late Bedtimes 🄹

Anyone else have a later bedtime? I’m in a mum groupchat and a lot of the mums seem to successfully get their babies down for bed at 7:30/8pm whereas for me it’s difficult hubby works far from home so we can’t start bedtime till 9pm sometimes 10pm. Honestly it’s a struggle getting a solid routine. We have one but just not solid.

Maybe I’m just in my head and emotional. Honestly I’m my worst own critic but I sometimes think is that why my baby can’t sleep through the night!

He’s 7 month and wakes up at least twice. Always at 3am and 5am for a feed then he’s back to sleep.

I guess I’m just wondering does everyone do a 7/7:30pm bedtime?

I get my baby to bed at 7. I start the bed time routine at about 6/6:30 so bath, book, bottle and then put him down in his cot at 7pm. Thankfully so far he sleeps through til about 6/6:30am.
Just out of curiosity, why do you have to wait until hubby gets home to do bedtime? If a later bedtime works for you though don’t compare yourself to others, everyone’s lives are different!🧔xx

he wants to spend time with him which is understandable and I always just need a breather too, then we have to have dinner, then clean then this & that then all you know it’s already 7:30pm 😭🤣

My baby is 7 months but 6 corrected. We’re starting weaning this week as she wasn’t ready. Because of that she’s still on a younger baby routine and has her last feed around 10 and wakes around 6-7. She sometimes falls asleep around 8ish and then we’ll feed her at 10, other times not. I’ve not got her into a proper bedtime routine yet as she’s also still in a Moses basket in the lounge and a crib in our room. I think once she’s weaned her routine will fall into place. I’ve never been one to fixate and stress of sleep schedules as long as there’s a rough flow. Don’t stress darling, honestly do what works for you. All I’d say is don’t let the 10pm bedtime go on too too long (several months down the line) as it will be tricky to change then.

Aw yeah completely understandable! if it works then that’s great, it’s lovely your hubby gets time with little one before bed 🄰
My other half also gets home late most nights, about 8pm so he misses bedtime, but on the days he’s home earlier/weekends, he does the bedtime and has quality time. I just can’t imagine not having my evenings that’s allšŸ˜‚ xxx

I have a solid bedtime routine and my baby goes to bed at 7pm most days, but she still sleeps absolutely terribly so don't stress over it! Two wake-ups in a night is great! Xxx

My LO has always had a late bedtime. When she was a newborn, she would sleep for 6/7hrs straight, from 2am šŸ˜‚

She’s 6.5 months now. We start bedtime routine at 9:30pm, and she’s usually asleep at 10pm, give or take 10min.

She still wakes up 2/3 times a night, but only once for feeding, around 6am. She wakes up anytime between 9 and 10:30am.

yeah this is it. Need to free up so me time because the weekends is not enough goes so quick šŸ˜… but for now it works cause we’ve just got so much going on. Going to gradually lessen the time.

thank you lovely. Wishing you and baby girl some better nights sleeps 🄰

we’ve just started weaning too been about 3 weeks. It’s so crazy now I’ve got schedule in making baby weaning food šŸ˜… as they grow the to do list piles on doesn’t it.

Yeah totally agree about not letting the 10pms happen too often. We do have a rough flow for sure. Hopefully in a few months it gets better

Thank you 🄰

yes!!! I feel seen!!! this is so similar to our routine. He’ll be in bed/sleeping 9/9:30pm and wake up same time 9/10am.

Like I don’t how these mamas are doing 6am/7am starts šŸ˜… I used to start work at 6am but I wasn’t married, childless and lived with my family. This is whole different ball game.

Thank you so much for replying šŸ¤—šŸ„°

@incognito I’m glad I’m not alone! 😁 I hate mornings so waking up at 6am is really not ok for me šŸ˜‚

I tried to put her down at 7:30pm once and she woke up at 6am. I learnt a valuable lesson that day šŸ˜‚ I rather have the extra time in bed/ sleeping, than to have child free evenings.

do not be harsh on yourself it’s about what works best for you and your family. we have a rebel here who sleeps around 11pm every night sometimes even midnight! but i get a nice lie in every morning which id prefer over a 6am start given me and my husband don’t get to sleep until around midnight ourselves

Avatar

Sorry girls, I love a lie in too but it’s so much better to get in to a healthy routine for your little ones sake and with that comes the fact you have to give up your lie ins, it’s not forever and they are only little for so long but it’s much better for the baby, the best sleep comes before midnight for both parent and baby, you will have your time to have a lie in again

Avatar

an early bedtime doesn’t work for everyone. What’s unhealthy about a late bedtime if it works for the whole family? It surely doesn’t work for me. It’s not really about having a lie in, it’s how the rest of the things that need to be done fall around. For me, I exclusively pump. My last session is at midnight. I can’t go to sleep before that time.

Besides, my LO is not going to nursery until she’s 2yo, so I’ve got plenty of time to ā€œfixā€ her bedtime.

thank you lovely 🄹🄰

I get where you are coming from but my son still gets up at 9am which is still early for some/me. I wouldn’t categorise it as a ā€œlie inā€ that’s more 11am/12pm šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

We still get so much done during the day. Just felt very guilty in comparison to mums in my group chat but now thinking of it and with this thread I’ve come to realise that’s just my reality due to hubbys schedule.

We’d rather prioritise other things instead of early bedtime. He likes watching football with him& Like we take turns bathing him because I don’t want him to get comfortable with just mum always bathing him and putting him to bed if that makes sense. I want him to get used to having two active parents.

Cause let’s say for example I get sick or just having a bad day or something. At least he is used to his father bathing and putting him to bed and during their bonding time I get a break šŸ˜…

Avatar

My girl goes to bed at 7 coz she is knackered by then but most of the time I’ll have a wake up before 10pm it’s so annoying as I wouldn’t mind a 8pm bedtime but she can’t last

Avatar

I think Lauren said healthy because the most quality and restorative sleep happens for baby before midnight. So obviously going to bed later means less time in this quality sleep. But obviously if it works for you and baby then do what works for you, each to their own 🧔

Baby clothes

Just out of curiosity, why do parents love zipper onesies?

Don’t get me wrong, I tried zipper ones it’s easy to zip in and out when putting it on the first time and taking it out, but I find it difficult when changing diapers especially when baby is asleep.

I prefer those kimono style buttons where it’s easy to button or too down button with crotch snaps.

Is everyone thinking the same or different? Lol

AITA

In the uk there is an outbreak of meningitis, in a specific area mainly. My BD has family from that area and decided to go and meet up with them, I said if he does then he cannot have contact with the kids for 7-10 days after incase he picks anything up. Am I being over dramatic? I reallyyy don’t want my young kids getting anything serious

This might rattle some people

Ok, this might get a bit long, and a bit bumpy, so get comfy and buckle up.

So about a week or 2 ago, there was a post on here regarding sleepovers. Not letting their child go to them as you can't trust who'll be at the house etc.

Now, given recent incidents in nurseries and schools, plus my own experience back in the 90s, I am more concerned about sending my child to nursery and later school than I am to a friend's house for a sleep over.

The other day a man was jailed for abusing children at the nursery he worked at. A woman has been arrested for sleeping with an underage boy and then getting pregnant by a different underage boy while on bail for the first offence.

Young girls and boys get sexually harassed and bullied when at school, not all of them. But more than you think. And not just by other kids, but by adults who we as parents are trusting to look after our kids.

A sleepover, is a more controlled environment, with only a handful of people coming into contact with your child. A school, a club etc there can be 100s of people coming into contact with your child.

I was targeted at 7 years old by the owner of a prominent private school. Thankfully, I wasn't SA'd. In year 5 of primary school, I started to develop early, I was harassed by the boys and teachers made remarks about how my uniform didn't fit right, always "adjusting it" around my chest and legs.

Years 7-9 of secondary school were hell. But it was all under the guise of "we're just messing around". A teacher twanging my exposed bra strap (none uniform day) is not "messing around".

Boys pinning me down trying to rip open my shirt to see my breasts.

I fear for my daughter. I hope she takes after my father's family, flat chested.

We need to educate all our children, what is acceptable behaviour. And to come to us, as their parents should ANYTHING happen.

At this point I’m not enjoying motherhood

My 22 month old is horrendous at the moment🫣 biting, hitting, pushing, pulling and shoving not only adults but children he also wants what other children have and will just snatch it away from them.

We repeat ā€˜nice hands’ ā€˜be gentle’ ā€˜let’s share’ etc

But how do I make him understand what he’s doing isn’t very nice? At the end of the day I feel like I’ve just been saying his name all day and nothing else.

What can I do?

Dummy

My baby has had a dummy since about 2 weeks old (now 5 months) and over the course of the last month we weaned her off it during the day only for naps and night (which was fine) and then 5 days took it completely away during the day.

The first day no dummy was fine, the second bit rougher. But now it feels impossible she just moans and cries all the time it takes ages for her to go down to sleep (she’s always been an amazing sleeper)

I thought it was meant to get better as time went on not worse. I’m at my wits end I dunno what to do.

Currently typing this as she screams uncontrollably in the car and I cry with her cos I can’t do anything.
