My little girl was born just over a week ago. While in hospital I spoke to several lactation consultants because my baby was having a hard time latching. They weren’t able to help me and I’ve had to put her on formula. I’ve been trying to pump but finding it painful and still only getting like 100mil a day which is barely a feed even though I’m spending hours and hours in total pumping. It’s causing me endless anxiety and I cry nearly everytime I pump. I don’t want to stop and regret it but I’m also not sure it’s worth how it’s making me feel…
I’m not sure what I want to get out of this post other than to maybe rant or see if there’s anyone else who feels similar to me? I feel like I’m failing her by not being able to give her a decent amount of breast milk… also worried about my mental health… just really not sure what to do..

You have to do what is best for you and there is no point in making yourself feel bad about it. Honestly some people just can't breast feed ad there body doesn't make enough milk. You have tried and clearly given it every chance you can. Just think about you and not putting stress onto yourself anymore especially when having a new born is such a diggicult time anyway. Good luck on whatever you decide to do x

I tried also to breast feed and felt the total same as yourself, don't be too hard on yourself you've gave it a go, good luck x

You need to take care of yourself first. Expressing didn’t work for me either it was making me miserable and so anxious. Changed onto formula and it’s night and day x
Thanks ladies x
would it be ok if I messaged you?

It is so unique for each mother. I feel you, Read about Haaka collector , it’s painfree that might help and boost your confidence. I used it when I was struggling to pump due to pain as well x

I found my manual pump painful at first. I found out it had the wrong size flange. I measured my nipples and ordered a different size one and that was much more comfortable xxx
It could be something like that making pumping so painful for you?
You've got to do what is best for you. Baby needs a well mummy and you deserve to not suffer so much xxx
like the haaka silicone pump?
I did change my flange in my electric pump as well. I have to have it set quite high to get anything out so that doesn’t help but if I have it any lower I get zero milk…

Yes, It’s the Haaka silicone pump :)
I found that significantly more painful than my electric pump. The electric pump still hurts but nothing like the haaka did. The lactation consultant showed me how to use it and I despised it..

That’s interesting, it has been the opposite for me. Sad it didn’t work for you.
Are your breasts full ? As that can lead to clogging and be more painful. If it is then you need to use warm cloth over to help release the flow.
they don’t even feel full, they aren’t enlarged or anything either… I just don’t think I have much milk…

Perhaos speak to midwife or health visitor for some advice xx

Question - how old is baby? You don't get barely any milk out in first 5 days. Baby's belly can only take tiny amounts. 100ml sounds fine.
I would seriously see a private lactation consultant, even if you want to express as well as formula feed. I think you have been let down by the hospital personally.
Whether you decide to formula, express or try again breastfeeding, it isn't too late to make that decision, with the proper support. Good vibes to you and Baby.
she’s ten days old today. I’ll look into a private
