I need help. At the moment I’m contemplating getting the epidural. I’ve talked to a few people who’ve gotten it and they’ve said that it has caused back pain for them ever since. But I have low pain tolerance and don’t want to regret not getting the epidural. What are everyone else’s thoughts and experiences?

I had an epidural five weeks ago when I had my baby because the pain Was really bad I have a medium pain tolerance and it causes me a nerve damage in my back. I can’t sit for too long or stand for too long either but it depends if you go have back labor also and it’s really up to your mama. Nobody can tell you to have one or to not get one. It’s really how you feel while you’re in labor and whatever will help your mind be at ease because another thing that happened with my epidural was that the fluid was leaking and it’ll need a number to one of my legs then I had to have other drugs administered to me, which left me feeling numb for like three days and I mean that like emotionally

I have an epidural , i had contractions and i could say thats the best things ive experienced during delivery, i had a lot of contractions, im okey now its been one months and few days , and everything is okey , i do not have a back pain or anything else
I think epidural depends on every woman’s body.
Good luck hun ❤️

I got the epidural and it helped me so much I got sick with that thing like 4 times in the back bc I was so swollen and have no issues from it if you want it get it

What I did was see how far I could go with out it and it was getting so so bad and my body was telling me to push but the nurse kept saying don’t push because they didn’t know if I was fully dilated and I was like f*ck this sh*t and said I want the epidural and I kept pushing so she got someone to check my dilation and they said I was fully dilated and I was like no sh*t huh and I went straight away to pushing. I couldn’t wait anymore to get an epidural. Pushing helps so much with the pain but then there is a new pain of your vagina being stretched out its like a burning sensation. Well baby came out and this random doctor came in and said I don’t get any awards for no epidural so I mean seems like no one really respects gals that choose no epidural and make them seem stupid for it but whatever. At least its safer for the baby. It also makes the process go a lot faster and something about embracing the pain just makes you feel so much closer to the baby at least for me.

My friend went into labor not wanting one and ended up getting one because it got too tough. Her moral of the story was “don’t be a hero” lol as in, don’t make yourself suffer trying to be tough, if you can’t handle it anymore there is no shame in getting an epidural. I plan on it and I don’t feel any shame because of it.

I should’ve worded it differently. Yes all mommas deserve respect but I feel as though a lot of the time moms that didnt get the epidural are disrespected or someone just has to reassure them they arent “special”. Thats all. Didn’t say I was special sorry it sounded like that.

I kept telling my boyfriend from the beginning that I wasn't getting an epidural. I thought I had a decent pain level tolerance until I went into labor. I gave birth 3 days ago and did receive an epidural, and I couldn't be happier, and so far, no back pain. Every woman is different, though. You will make the right choice when it is your time. I will just say keep an open mind.

I went as far as I could without it and it was a saving grace, I was begging for it by the end once I was on Pitocin to speed things along. Can’t speak to long term consequences, but I’ve always been told I have a high pain tolerance, but after a long labor with minimal progression I needed it, and I am very grateful to have it

Get the epidural, labor pains are intense! But if you think you can handle them and want to do it natural don’t let me discourage you.
I didnt have any bad side effects from it though!

I got the epidural this month and it was the best decision for me. The contractions were no joke

I wanted it but was kinda nervous because I had also had heard about the back pain so I waited as long as I could to have it and I ended up not needing it. You can also ask your doctor if there is any other pain medication you can have instead of an epidural!

I think that's mostly a question you'll decide the answer to when you're in labor. I really wanted a natural birth, but caved in because the pain became too much for me

Like many others, I wanted to go as natural as possible and avoid the epidural. I have a previously herniated disc and was very concerned but when I gave in to the epidural it was fine. Doctor had to try twice but it was just a pinch and provided immediate relief. I was begging for the epidural bc the pain just got to be too much for me.
One other suggestion: ask for the laughing gas before the epidural. Using only the gas, I was able to labor to 7-8cm dilated before the pain was too much. The gas really helped me get that far on my own!
