I am currently 39 weeks and 6 days. I have no signs of labor as of yet and I am going crazy thinking that everyday will be the day. I have been very positive most of my pregnancy and I’m not fearful of labor, I actually really want to get it done already and to have my baby in my arms. I am deciding whether I should get induced for my 40 week checkup because there are a lot of things I am scared of. For example, the baby being to big to deliver normally, the baby popping inside of me (very common after full term) and the baby wrapping around the umbilical cord now that she is so big. I wanted to go completely unmediated for my birth and if I get induced that won’t be possible and I’ve heard the contractions are 10x worse which would likely make me opt for an epidural as well. I’m so torn and my anxiety is getting worse by the day. Any advice?

Wait! You can schedule it when they offer but wait and see! I scheduled my induction at 39 weeks and my baby came right on his due date I didn’t have any signs of labor either I just woke up one day had terrible contractions so I went too the hospital and a couple hours later I met my baby 🥰

My first was induced and I did it un-medicated. I only laboured 5 hours so you can still have the birth you want :)

Instead of induction, you could schedule a membrane sweep. This is a more natural way to speed up labor. It worked for me!

I decided to get induced at 40+3 which will be on Thursday. My doctor told me c-sections, stillbirths, and other complications go up a lot after 40 weeks and I looked into it and that is what studies show. I've also been in early labor for almost two weeks and am miserable. She said my induction should be easy. Just thinks my contractions need to be stronger and things will move quick since my cervix is very thin. I'm 2cm dilated. She said I could wait if I wanted to though but should definitely do it before 42 weeks. Just do research on it and make the decision that you feel is best for you!

Hi Lenyi, I’m sorry you’re not yet experiencing signs of labor I know it can be so frustrating towards the very end.
My due date was Oct 13th but I got induced Oct 5th (my doctor had been telling me induction was likely due to my baby’s growth rate). I REALLY wanted to be completely unmedicated as well and I was really upset at the idea of being induced bc like you said the contractions produced by pitocin are a lot worse.
I got to the hospital at 1pm at 4cm dilated.
They started me on a pitocin drop (gradually increasing the drip by 2 ml every 30 then 15 mins) I labored on pitocin until 5:30p without medicine. It was really hard, which at that point I asked for epidural bc I couldn’t take the pain anymore. My husband tells everyone “before the epidural I thought she was gonna die” 🥺
At 5:30 when I got the epidural I was 7cm dilated. The epidural changed the game for me. I was able to have such a wonderful rest of my Labor after that. For someone who was so so adamant about no

Epidural… I’m SO GLAD that I asked for it.
I got to be so alert, present, happy, excited to push and see my baby come into the world.
What I’ve learned is that, if in the future I have to be induced I will right from the start ask for the epidural bc there’s no sense in suffering those unnatural contractions from pitocin. I think knowing that I labored 4 and half hours on pitocin with no medication, makes me feel like I would be capable of having an unmedicated labor if I have a NATURAL birth some day.
After the epidural at 5:30 I gave birth at 9:08p… I couldn’t imagine dealing with that pain for 3 and a half more hours it was so intense. It was every min at that point and the pain was just unreal.
I’d say to labor with an open mind.
Labor until you feel like you can’t do it anymore. & if you feel you want the epidural ask for it. There’s no shame in it & it’ll completely change your experience.
No matter which way .. the only goal is to get your baby here safe.
Good luck 💗

Stop listening to what other people say about contractions. This is what makes me talk sht about women. Y’all are so scared of a little bit of pain. Pit stresses the baby out and then you need an emergency c-section. Let your body do what it’s suppose to do

Rather than having them give you pitocin right away - have them break your waters for you. I was just induced at 41 weeks with two rounds of Cytotec, and once they broke my waters - my active labor contractions came on their own. I got the epidural once I was about 7cm dilated and it was WORTH it!! I slept and rested for a few hours. Pushed for 2 hours, rested again, and only THEN did I agree to pitocin to strengthen my contractions. I pushed on and off for 2 more hours and had a great delivery that was totally manageable with the epidural. Just know your options and ask for more time if you’re not ready for an intervention to give your body more time.
I’d also suggest waiting to induce until you’re closer to 41 weeks. Most women go “late” bc your body just needs more time. Remember, your due date is just an ESTIMATE - not a firm deadline.

some situations call for patients being induced. I’d much rather be induced then potentially end up having a C Section straight away.
I was induced due to fetal growth.
I labored for 8 hours. NO C SECTION.
Happy healthy baby & mama ..
Not all inductions end up in c sections ignore this type of ‘advice’ do what’s best for you!

you must be a doctor right? Since you seem to think you know everything about L&D 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

I got induced at 39+3 and it wasn't too bad! I got an epidural, but I had been expecting to. I was only in active labor for about 6 hours and actually my water broke before they even gave me any pitocin. Do what feels right to you! I'm really glad I got induced because out of town family could plan to visit and my parents were also able to take time off to help. It made me feel like I had more control which really helped me mentally.
