Hi all
So my BD and I aren’t together and I have sole custody of our 11 month old. I’ve raised her and cared for her solely and he visits twice a month for a couple of hours each time, usually with his mum too.
He doesn’t really interact much with her or know how to parent so even when he does visit I’m still parenting whilst he gets to just look at her and take cute pictures of her I guess for socials and to show his friends.
Last time he visited we went to the park and I said to him “right you can take her over there to play and I’ll stay here” to give him a chance to actually parent as well as at least try to bond with her. But I felt so guilty leaving her like I was abandoning her as she doesn’t really know who this man is that I left her with.
He is visiting tomorrow and I’ve suggested soft play. Do I leave him to play with her whilst I watch or do I get involved? I just feel like if I get involved he just sits back and doesn’t do anything. I’m with her 24/7 as I’m a SAHM so I’m sure it’s fine, I just don’t want her to feel that I have neglected her for 2 hours.

Whatever you feel most comfortable with! I’ve personally given up with mine🤣 my job is to care for my baby not teach her dad to be a dad. I’m hoping as she gets a little older and more aware he’ll step up a little more but for now I’ve taken the stress off myself. If your BD is wanting the opportunity then I’d definitely give it a go! You can always step in whenever you feel necessary. I promise you she will not feel neglected whatever you decide x
thank you hun that makes me feel so much better I’ll see how it goes
