Here in the same boat. Just couple of words and babbles a lot.
they said 18months should have 5-20 words already. My bub dont have a single word with meaning 🥹

Does it seem like they understand you when you ask things? Like can they get shoes when asked etc? If not I'd be definitely getting a referral for specialist. I know some kids can start talking later but as long as they seem to understand you and are attempting to tell you what they want you should be good. Was the nurse concerned at the 18m appointment?
no she’s not really responding when I point things to her but if she sees im holding her shoes she’ll come and give me her foot to put on the shoes. If she wants something she’ll pull my hand and drag me to take what she wants. The nurses were concerned and said they will refer but almost 3 months now and havent heard from anyone 😭

I'm no expert so 100% chase up the people for the referral!! With early intervention type stuff the sooner they start getting support the better! Even if it turns out she's just a late bloomer at least you'll know you've done all the right things!
I've worked in the type of job where I've had to make referrals for clients before and sometimes things honestly get lost or forget to get chased up so definitely just reach out and remind them 😊 bureaucracy sucks haha.
i just called up and they said the referal is there but it will be triaged based on the urgency. I heard the wait even for private paeds is 18 months minimum how much more through the public system 😭 Im in the NT so not sure if its worst compared to if im in bigger cities. Dont know how their triage works but hopefully it wont be too late when its my bubs turn! 🥹

This makes me feel so much better! My little man is still really not talking except for a few words and babbling. But he does understand when say things to him, so maybe I shouldn’t worry as much?
