Me and my partner really like the name Willa for our little girl who is on the way, but my partner has just found out that Willa is a Spanish slang word for prostitute đ.
So for the Spanish speakers out there, would this be the equivalent of someone visiting an English speaking country and being called Hooker?! If so thatâs a bit of a deal breaker on using the name which is sad, as we travel to Spain quite frequently, and have Spanish acquaintances, so definitely wouldnât want her to have a name which is synonymous with prostitution to the entire Spanish speaking world.

I wouldnât have had a clue but what about Willow? Sounds very similar but hopefully doesnât have the same meaning. Willa is still beautiful though

I am Spanish and never heard it before, unless its from another Spanish speaking country. Futhermore, Willa was on my list when I was pregnant. Its such a pretty name đ€

I'm from Mexico, and that's true, GĂILA:nombre femenino
COLOQUIALâąMĂXICO
Mujer que ejerce la prostituciĂłn.

Iâm from uruguay, have lived in cuba, Paraguay, Spain, visited Argentina too, and have friends from all over Latin America and have never heard of that term used to refer to a hooker so if itâs a thing it must just be in one or two countries
Researching a little deeper it looks like it is unique to Mexican Spanish
