Cyclogest bleeding - rectal use

I’ve been using cyclogest pessaries 3 times a day for over 12 weeks now, I used them rectally as any time I’ve tried vaginally they irritate my cervix too much and cause bleeding. Over the last few days I’ve noticed I’m getting quite sore and today I’ve started to bleed from my bum. Has this happened to anyone else and is there anything I can do to make inserting them less painful/stop any further damage?

Can you alternate? That’s what I did last time, means is a longer gap between each time and so you get less irritation.

@Zoe I alternated for the first 3 weeks and I had 3 separate episodes of bleeding from my cervix, doing them vaginally just terrifies me since that due to previous miscarriages and trauma

I had problems with Cyclogest. I didn't bleed but I was really itchy and irritated by them. They swapped me to utrogestan and I had no problems. I was worried it would effect the pregnancy but it didn't. Swapping was absolutely fine.

@Sophie I’m 14 weeks now and was discharged from my ivf clinic at 7 weeks so I don’t think they’ll prescribe me something different now. This is probably my 9th time at using cyclogest, never had problems before so I’m just assuming it’s the amount of time/number of pessaries at this point 😩

Do you think they would switch you to injections instead? If they are causing that much discomfort it may be worth asking. I have never done pessaries but haven't had issues with PIO other than injection site bumps. Best of luck ❤️

@Megan I’m already on injections, I take 3 pessaries and 2 injections every day! Thankyou ❤️

If you’re at 14 weeks you could probably come off them by now. Have a word with your clinic about the issues you’re having and see if it’s ok to stop.

@Sophie I think there’s some kind of stock issue in the UK with Utrogestan as my clinic has stopped using it? I found it was kinda gross anyway. Cyclogest used rectally was so much easier and less messy.

@Sharon unfortunately I can’t, I’ve got to stay on both the pessaries and injections until I’m 16 weeks and then I’ll be seen in preterm clinic and possibly have the pessaries extended until 36 weeks! I’m not on them for IVF purposes anymore but still thought this was the best place to ask

36 weeks! 😩😩😩😩
