Speech delay success/ recovery

Any success stories? What did you do? How long did it take?

I am so frustrated with my son and I shut down and talk less which is not helping.

FYiI i gave a 3 almost 4 year old. I am incognito because I feel ashamed tbh. I feel like my son is the only one and it makes it hard to bring him places with other Kids

It's weird because he's can read but somehow not communicate wil. 1 or 2 word phrases. Sometimes 3-4 but he is all over the place. I can be telling him about a ball and he starts taking about some story in broken words. =(

The school is fed up with him which is fueling my frustration which impairs his progress because we are both stressed.

Hi girl have you try early intervention speech therapy? I did it with both my boys who are twin and I felt like they weren't talking as much. After about 6 months they started talking a lot more, and expressing themselves. I went through their pediatrician who submitted a referral.

i was told I would have to be private because wven thogh there is delay, he is able to answer questions when asked even if it is 1 to 2 words but only with some adults. He doesn't talk to kids or his teachers. I think it is because they talk down to him. They only complain despite him having positive things

Don’t stress my daughter at 2.5 talks like crazy now

Switch schools or daycare that he is in. Clearly if they are upset they aren’t being part of the solution.

Hi mama my son on his 2nd birthday was only making about 12 different animal sounds and using sign language. I had him assessed by early intervention 2 times at 9 months and at 15 months then finally at 18 months they gave me the green light and started services at 2 years old. Around 6 months in we started to see immense progress and then it finally took off. It was the hardest until that point bc he had a lot of behaviors because of inability to communicate and just being a toddler. Have heart, keep pushing for services if you feel like he qualifies. Their reasoning doesn’t seem sound for why he doesn’t qualify. Try again and hopefully he can get help until age 3. My son now 3 is in a huge language explosion. My other suggestion if possible bc I know it isn’t always but have him surrounded by encouraging not discouraging caregivers like at the school bc my son has a lot of behaviors too due to a babysitter we had part time who we recognized was a huge detriment to his development.

It truly wasn’t until we made some of those hard changes that we finally saw some positive improvements. Have heart and we’re here for you

You should be ashamed of your self and not get frustrated with your toddler it’s not his fault. I have a lot of advice because I have a completely non verbal 3 year old autistic son and never have I been frustrated with him for his disability. I definitely think you need to change your mindset before any good changes will come.

I totally understand your frustration, it’s not easy! I have a 3 yr old who turned 3 in June and isn’t saying too much clearly . He talks but only I can understand him. Even though it’s not their fault we’re human and it does get frustrating I try my best to never let my child feel my frustration but after he’s asleep I wonder if he’ll ever catch up to his peers . My son is 3 and I’m watching my 1.5 yr old niece pass him with speech and it’s heartbreaking but all we can do is make sure we’re doing all we can to help them along the way.

As far as the school being frustrated that’s completely unacceptable and maybe you should look into a school that can accommodate his needs.

Same thing happened to me when I tried to get speech services for my child, after the age of 3 it’s become really difficult to find somewhere that accepts my insurance.

I wish you the best and just think in 5 yrs we’ll be looking back at this time telling our kids “I thought you would never talk”

I live in Texas and have searched and searched and searched for everything to help my son. There is a lot of help I have found for my son. He receives occupational therapy and speech therapy both at my house. And he is also starting at the school Monday state funded meaning I don’t have to pay anything 2 hours a day 5 days a week. Where he will work with an occupational therapist, speech therapist and special education teacher. I feel like there are definitely a lot of programs out there that will help you. You just really have to search for them which is very sad. I have been frustrated that we have had to deal with certain things and opinions of others but I just keep in mind how special all kids are and what a gift and light he is in my life. And I know these programs are available for speech delay as well as autism. I have a 1.5 year old daughter who does speak more than my son but everyone learns at their own pace and it will get better.

Tell your pediatrician. I told my daughter’s pediatrician and she connected me to a place that would provide a speech therapist and they would go to my daughters daycare. I also enrolled again and had a speech therapist come to my house. We’ve seen a huge improvement and took a break this summer and now I’m applying to get another one. They all say my daughter is on the right track but they think her mouth muscles need more developing bc her pronunciation is weak. Keep singing, and playing with your son. Also, repeat conversation catch phrases ex: hey what’s up, how are you?, hi my name is __, what’s your name? Come here, let’s go, wait please, I’m thirsty, help I have to go potty, bye see you soon. Don’t get frustrated, we just have to work with them extra hard but it will pay off. I also let my daughter play in the bathtub and then keep her there to read Dr. Seuss books. Repetition and play is key!!

My son was behind with his speech at two. They checked his hearing and realized that he needed tubes in his ears because what he heard was as if we were underwater talking to him. Idk if you have had his hearing checked or not but that is what fixed the issue with my son and almost immediately after he got his tubes in he was talking.

I think Motherhood has made me more bitter than I realized…

This is such a ramble but I don’t know where else to put it all.

I’m four months in and I don’t really have hobbies right now. I don’t do anything for myself except maybe doomscrolling or listening to a podcast while I breastfeed my baby. I used to craft and have game nights with friends. Activities that usually are at least 2 hour stretches. Now if I have an hour free my mind immediately goes to baby, or doing something in the house for baby.

And I thought I didn’t mind. Like I knew postpartum could be very mentally consuming. But I think it’s altering how I view people around me and it’s prodding at my relationship with my husband.

He spends most of his time making food for us, looking after our dogs, playing with the baby, ect. But he still has time for his hobby. Spends maybe an hour a night on it. Even adapted to using a bot for shopping for his hobby after a certain incident where we had to have a heart to heart after he left me home alone with the baby for hours during a busy workday (I work from home) to shop for his hobby.

And yet there’s like this little green eyed monster in me that rages every time I know he’s running off to start up the bot. Even though I’m the reason he does it this way.

We took a family trip last weekend to see his best friend and their kids and let them meet the baby. He brought the laptop. He’s always brought a laptop on trips and it’s never been a problem to me before. But one night we both woke up while the baby was still asleep, and he wandered out of the room. I tried to fall back asleep but couldn’t. So I went to the kitchen to try having something warm to drink to settle me. And he was there at the table running the bot from his laptop. I flipped out at him. But there really wasn’t reason to. It’s not like I needed help with the baby and he was ignoring me. He wasn’t avoiding our friends. He was just awake and unable to sleep and found something to do with his time. Yet my snap reaction was “why the hell would you do this on a family trip?”

I don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s the less complete sleep from baby’s middle of the night feed? My brain being just consumed by baby? Maybe I’m not as over that shopping incident as I thought? But I’m just so annoyed at his hobby right now. The green eyed monster thinks “you could be using that time differently” but realistically to do what exactly??? Stare at our baby in the dark???

I spent probably an hour apologizing to him after I snapped. And he’s of course hurt and frustrated because I said some very mean things in the moment.

I don’t want to be this jealous, angry person. But I also don’t know how to find time for myself in this right now outside of basic hygiene. It’s like I’ve forgotten how to be myself, even if just for an hour.

Maybe I need a therapist.

Do men really enjoy fellatio?

Been together more than 10 years, but it's been a while since he even seemed remotely interested in me getting on my knees, or vice versa so to speak. I think it was once last year. Must be something I am doing wrong 🤔. Generally everything else in that department is great and we have two young kids with no extra support, so it's quite surprising we can't keep our hands off each other but may need to try new things. It's basically 2 positions each time with some foreplay.

Naps

How is everyone doing for naps?

Little one is 9 months old and will have 2 half hour naps and one solid 1 hour - 2 hour nap a day

Then settles for night around 9pm. Wakes for a feed around 3:30 then sleeps until 6-7
