Do you have rent to pay? Or do you live with family?
Have you had a look at this

No one on here can tell you, do the benefit calculators be aware MA is taken £ for £. Apply for UC, you don’t lose anything.
If you live at home I assume your outgoings aren’t that large, a baby isn’t that expensive especially if you breastfeed. We really don’t spend that much a month additional (currently anyway).

Possibly universal credit but ring citizen advice they’ll help you with it
that’s the calculator I used, yeah I live with family but still have car payments and pay rent to my mum x

You’ll probably be entitled to some universal credit but if you live at home it won’t be a lot. Do a benefits calculator online x
thank you! I will apply for both I think but also contact citizens advice, outgoings come to around £500 a month currently with car payments and rent I pay to my mum x

If you’re low income you also may qualify for the sure start grant and the healthy start cards (can’t remember what it’s called, something like that) x

When I was on statutory maternity pay I qualified for universal credit living with my mum and got about 300 a month off uc x

You will be eligible for universal credit but depending on how much you’re actually getting from UC because maternity allowance deducts fully from your UC entitlement.

Unfortunately universal credit doesn't take into account things like car payments, phone bills etc. It only asks you about rent. We are part rent part buy and we are not entitled to help with the mortgage side of our housing only the rent and when you apply for UC it doesn't ask you about anything like car payments, phone bills or other outgoings other than rent really. It's crazy but I guess it doesn't class them as essential? 🙈

Is this in every state I live in indiana and I've never heard of this
sorry I’m not sure, I’m based in the UK 😊

Your MA should get topped up with UC but it can depend, I get child benefit, UC and my pay from maternity leave, in total it’s a little under £1300… when I first went applied for my maternity leave I thought I would get around £600 so was pleasantly surprised when it was over double that 😊

Ok thank you

I’m on MA and tried to apply for universal credit at the same time and because MA is already classed as a benefit they won’t let you claim universal credit at the same time so you have to pick one or the other. See which one will pay you more. Hope that helps

You should get UC, so apply for that, but they won't take into consideration that you pay your mum rent.
I'm going on leave soon and still receive UC as I don't earn loads at work. I'll be on MA as I wasn't there along enough for SMP, and my letter says my UC may increase once I'm receiving MA as it'll be less than my wages.

I’m a single parent living at home and get £689 a month from maternity allowance. UC class maternity allowance as an extra income so I don’t qualify for anything
