I feel underwhelmed after ultrasound

So I went for my dating scan on Tuesday, hubby came too. Everything was fine with baby and normal. However I left feeling a bit underwhelmed as the lady who did my ultrasound didn't really say much to me and I felt a bit like she was rushing to get me through, I also couldn't hold my husbands hand as he was right in the corner away from the bed. I don't know if this is just generally what ultrasounds are like but I was a bit disappointed leaving as she didn't really explain anything at all and made me feel a bit like I was juat another scan, which I am but this was important to me. I should probably also mention that I have a bit of a fear of medical settings, hate having bloods taken ect, and I always make this known to the medical professionals looking after me, but I felt like the lady who did my bloods was just so much nicer and made me feel more comfortable than my ultrasound lady. I've had a really difficult first trimester as it is, and this has kind of made me feel that I didn't really matter. Anyone else had a similar experience?

I felt like my NHS ultrasounds were all a bit lacking. They seems to always be in a rush which I totally understand they are short staffed. But it’s rubbish when you’re looking forward to seeing your baby! If you can afford it, I’d definitely recommend treating yourself to a private scan. They spend a good 30 mins showing you all the different bits of your baby and give you great photos and videos. Worth every penny in my opinion!

I had a disappointing 20 week scan, it definitely left me feeling disheartened. The attitude of the sonographer really can make a massive difference. I hope your 20 week scan makes up for this one! You could also consider a private scan sooner if you have the funds. Sorry that you had this experience!

I agree with Tash on paying for a private scan! I’ve had 2 scans with my doctor and both were about 5 minutes and nothing was explained to me but I went this past Tuesday for a private scan and they spent 30 minutes with me, pointed out all the different body parts, and gave me about 30 photos, a video, and a heartbeat recording. It felt way more special

Yes 🙌🏼 over here. I felt this way with my first and again with my second, at both the 12 and 20 weeks scans. The ultrasound techs are overworked and it’s all a bit perfunctory. I also found they pushed too hard - one actually said ‘release your stomach muscles please, you’re hurting my arm’, as if she wasn’t hurting my entire abdomen. I don’t enjoy the scans. I went for a transvaginal ultrasound for a cyst on my ovary between pregnancies and it was an entirely different experience - we had a great chat and I was made to feel very comfortable despite the more invasive procedure. Don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself for your next one, unlike me! They forget that this is your first time, even they do it all day every day.

All expect one of mine were great.
Maybe because it was a bloke I dunno. But he was really rough with the scan thingy too and didn’t give me hardly any commentary on what he was doing and/or looking at xx

Yea they’re typically not the most supportive, but I always ask hella questions. I ask things like “What are you measuring now?” “What does that mean?” “Is the heartbeat strong?” You should ask next time! I also always meet up with my OB for a few minutes after the ultrasound appt & she’s always super sweet and reassuring. I hope you have a good relationship with yours because that’s super important for your journey.

It seems that depends of luck with sonographers 🤣 Charitee thats good, but if they dont answer or tell you 1 word answers what you goanna do? In the UK you dont have a OB it's just the sonographer and that's all. Midwifes are not there with you (is not like all could make a difference)so won't know what's happening and I have a few scans due to issue and all were same, rushed muted experience during and after, apart of 1 time when I met a nurse that was incredible. The last nurse I saw could not care less did not write any notes on my letter for gp follow up, just useless and uninterested.

I went also private for a scan and not much better experience, it was a 8 weeks scan though but did not show ME much apart of here is the Heart pulsing and terribly picture.

Overall the system is unfortunately broken în my opinion, if you don't enjoy your job just quit. We speak about people feelings.

I feel you, what I could say if focus on baby, being healthy and growing nicely.

That’s so sad. I live in the states, so it’s interesting to see how healthcare works in other countries. I am sorry that’s how your experience is. Really doesn’t make sense on how anyone could think that is okay or fair for mothers to go through.

Induction?

Anyone been induced before? Was it more painful? Better than thought? Worse than thought? Worth it? Thoughts?

Induction or c section?

As a last resort, would you rather be induced or have a planned c section?

Really not liking the thought of being induced from people’s experiences I’ve read!

Almost 37 weeks + told to do another growth scan

I just had my second to last doctor’s appointment this morning, and my OB told me she wants me to do another growth scan because my belly is measuring small. She says it’s probably just because I’m a smaller woman, but they like to be safe. It’s hard to hear though, since I just did one a couple months ago.

I did this with my firstborn around this time of pregnancy, so I do think I just carry smaller (even though I don’t feel like I look “small” at all). My first baby was 6lbs 15oz when she was born at 41 weeks + 2 days. I’m having this baby at 39 weeks on April 7. I hope she’s still at least 6lbs.

Anyone have any stories similar to this?
