Sick leave or maternity leave?

I’m having a c section on Tuesday which I found out about last night. Do I take sick leave today and start maternity tomorrow, or just start maternity leave today? Not sure how it works!

They'll automatically start your maternity leave if you have pregnancy related sickness within 4 weeks of your maternity leave starting

Your employer can automatically start your maternity if you go sick so close to your due date, so you may as well just ask for maternity leave. Good luck with the planned section ☺️

Well in that case, it sounds like it's your porotagive what you want to do. If you get paid sick leave I'd take that and stretch the mat leave by a few days. It sounds minimal but tbh when it comes to returning to work I'm sure every day with little baby will Count 😅

You automatically go on mat leave from 36 weeks so tale sick leave until 36 weeks then go into mat leave x

They will automatically start your maternity leave. Any sickness pregnancy related from 1 month to your due date it automatically begins.

Sorry, just piggy backing as I'm in a similar position. I am 34 and on sick leave and mat leave will trigger at 36, likely baby will be coming soon - I just thought that I had read somewhere that you inform work of the day you deliver (therefore they can bring your mat leave forward if needed)?

I read online that Mat leave kicks in day after baby is born. I don’t know about bringing the date forward so hopefully someone can help xx

it does. I’d definitely try and use sick leave or paid antenatal appointment leave prior to it formally kicking in if I was in your situation. Good luck!

If you are off sick which is pregnancy related, your mat leave automatically starts from 36 weeks..my employer told me to take annual leave to avoid this but I ended up off sick from like 25 weeks anyways so I'm 36 weeks this Thursday and my sick leave automatically changes to mat leave.. but if your not off sick mat leave starts from the day baby is born unless you have organised a certain date with your employer already.. but every company is different that's just my policy for NHS check your own work policy x

Hi everyone! I gave birth via emergency c section 9 months ago as my baby boy was measuring big, he pooped inside so there was risk of him inhaling it and I wasn’t progressing past 3cm to have a natural birth and now I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby. I’m having a consultation on Tuesday to talk about birth options and to have any questions answered but I don’t know what to ask. I feel like it would be safer having a c section again but at the same time I don’t want a c section. Does anyone have any question ideas I could ask or any advice/stories of similar situations. Tia

These ads running ozempic everywhere are disgusting, and then getting amazing athletes like Serena Williams to push them talking bout “i’ve never been healthier” girl you were an OLYMPIC athlete wym??

C section compression socks

Hey ladies when did you ditch the compression socks and how mobile were you when you did? I’m so done with them! 6 weeks tomorrow since the op and im walking around the house doing jobs and baby care but not really out and about yet (the odd day I am) is it safe to ditch the socks?

Getting pregnant after c section

When did you get pregnant again after a c section? Our plan was always to have 2 under 2 but that is now out the window because I had an emergency section. I know they say 18 months and we will be sticking to it (as much as I don’t want to) but I’m curious how quickly you got pregnant after your section?

Movements

I’m 28 weeks tomorrow. Yesterday I had loads and loads of movements but today I have only felt small flutters and a couple of kicks throughout the day. I get so confused as some people say they don’t have a pattern but others say they do. We have a Doppler so used it this evening and could hear the heartbeat and then moving but does anyone else get quieter days of movement than others? I am seeing my midwife tomorrow so will check but just find myself getting anxious about it and don’t know when to get checked. I know they encourage it but last time as soon as I got to triage baby started moving loads!
