I am exclusively breastfeeding my three-week-old baby. He seems to sleep a lot through the night and feed more during the day. He is passing more than, on average, four poop nappies a day and a lot more wee nappies. However, I sometimes have to wake him up at night for feeds to ensure he eats no longer than 3/4 hours apart. But if he wakes up, he may only feed for 10/15 mins and then sleep for another 3 hours. But during the day, he usually provides every other hour or 1.5 hours. He sleeps in his next-to-me cot in a sleeping bag. He is putting on good weight from the feedback myHV relayed. But I fear he is at risk of SIDS because he isn’t waking much for feeds. There have been some nights he won’t get off the boob, but they are few and far between. Am I doing something wrong? I feed on demand. Is there anything I should be doing differently?

Just curious why you are waking him at night for feeds? If he is healthy and gaining weight then you don’t even need to wake him up! You might just have a good sleeper even if it’s just for now maybe try to enjoy some rest! Just keep feeding on demand and have him close to you like in a bassinet or bedside sleeper at night and the proximity to you alone will help prevent Sids.

Waiting for him to wake up is fine. Both my midwife and IBCLC said so. My son slept anywhere for 2.5-7hrs overnight in the first week the 6-7 hrs didn't last more than those first two week. Was a handful of times but they said it's fine because everything indicates that he is thriving
