Health visitors

Does anyone know how they work exactly? I’ve requested a visit a few times now and no one bothers to get back to me. is there anyway I can change who it is or is it based on where you live?

I think it's based on where you live but there are multiple HVs for each area.

With mine I received a letter before baby was born saying they would come and visit pre-birth, then once baby was born they came for the standard visits then we made appointments adhoc based on when I felt I needed them.

Are you pregnant or have you had baby?

The one we originally got is apparently on sick leave and it seems like we’ve not been given another one. I have a 7 month old which I’m looking to get advice from them but when I leave a message on their office voicemail they don’t get back to me 😂

sounds like they've dropped the ball somewhere in assigning you another
one!

So frustrating when no one gets back to you! What about flagging with your GP surgery that you don't have one and see if they can follow up for you?

yeah I feel like I’m going round in circles and I hate being rude about it but I’m getting so frustrated that I’m reaching out for help and not getting anything back

Avatar

totally understand! Especially when that's what that service is there for! Do you have a red book? Wondering if there are any other numbers or an email address or something you could try in there?

I met mine at 30 weeks I’m now 34 weeks she’s currently covering for someone who is off sick where abouts do you live? Do you mind me asking we could have same one

But then at 32 weeks had a phone call from another HV saying she was assigned me so there not very good at communicating by the looks of things 🤣

Avatar

yeah I don’t think they are 😂 I’m in Harraby and was assigned someone called Ashleigh

I do but there is only the health visitors office number in there which is what I’ve used. Think I’ll just have to contact the GP and try get their help… for them to tell me it’ll be a health visitor issue 😂

Avatar

I’m currock area so don’t think they would be same unfortunately and neither of mine are called Ashleigh but Yehh mine said I could have her I might not once baby comes 🤣 so will be interesting to see x

Avatar

so frustrating for you! Hopefully the GP manage to help you out!

Avatar

Mine never leaves me alone 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 , could you maybe put a complaint in to your assigned HV manager? I done this with the first HV I had as she was awful and complained and got a new one Xx

Dummy

My baby has had a dummy since about 2 weeks old (now 5 months) and over the course of the last month we weaned her off it during the day only for naps and night (which was fine) and then 5 days took it completely away during the day.

The first day no dummy was fine, the second bit rougher. But now it feels impossible she just moans and cries all the time it takes ages for her to go down to sleep (she’s always been an amazing sleeper)

I thought it was meant to get better as time went on not worse. I’m at my wits end I dunno what to do.

Currently typing this as she screams uncontrollably in the car and I cry with her cos I can’t do anything.

Of these two, which seems more overall “demanding” to you, overall? Lighthearted poll, not putting anyone down 🫶🏼

As a mum who breastfed for 3 years, I think formula feeding seems 100x harder and more demanding. I give those mamas all the credit because I could not keep up with that faff haha. I truly don’t understand why people say breastfeeding is more effort, other than the fact that no one else can do it. But personally I’d take that over endless bottle prep & cleaning.

Is this normal?

My 12m old is really funny with kids going near him, he’s always been this way, but anytime family’s kids sit next to him or head his way he moans or cries and moves away. He also really observes them and is never really relaxed, always looking over his shoulder. Has anyone experienced this? (He’s starting nursery properly tomorrow so hoping this helps) but is this normal?

8 week immunisations

My 8 week old has his first set of injections tomorrow and I’m abit nervous. Does anyone have any advice for after the jabs? I know they get a temp after so have got some calpol to give just before hand. Should I put him to bed in less clothing to make sure he doesn’t get too hot? Any tips from your experience with first set of immunisations? Am I worrying more than I need to? 😅

Signs of Neurodivergent Toddler

Any moms of neurodivergent toddlers who could help me out? My son is 13 months old. I know that is technically too early for a diagnosis, but I have a gut feeling that he is on the autism spectrum.

The main sign he shows is hand leading. He does not point at all, and instead will take my hand and lead me anywhere he wants to go,
getting very frustrated if I do not follow.

He is also extremely sensitive to being touched, especially when it comes to hats and putting clothes on. He won’t let anything touch his head or face and I have to fight him to brush his teeth, comb his hair, etc.

He’s very interested in things that aren’t toys and will repeat the same behavior over and over. He can go in and out of doors or walk up and down stairs for hours. He loves taking things out of containers and putting the back in repeatedly.

We recently took him on his first vacation and he REALLY struggled with the change. He struggles with any type of transition or change in routine.

He laughs, makes eye contact, mostly responds to his name, but doesn’t do any other gestures.

Normal toddler behavior or signs of ASD? Let me know your thoughts!
