I was in triage yesterday for reduced movements. (I’m 36 +1) everything was fine on monitoring and I was sent home with a follow up scan today. This is my 2nd episode in 2 weeks.
After my scan the doctor reviewed me and has said that my placenta has suddenly dropped compared to my scan 2 weeks ago and I now need a scan next week and have been booked to see the consultant (I’ve been midwife throughout).
He briefly spoke about the needing of a c-section… but this is to be discussed at the clinic appointment post scan. has anyone else got a low lying placenta? Are you scheduled for a c-section?

Hi, yes I have a low lying placenta they first spotted this at my 20 week scan, then I had a 32 week scan and it had still not moved much by then so asked me to go back at 36 weeks which they confirmed it hadn't budged and the only option for the baby to be delivered was section so I am booked in for one on 22nd November. I've never had one before as my other 2 were natural births so I am quite nervous about it, however I've read a lot of positive stories on here so I am hoping mine will be the same and that i recover OK. I thought they would have already booked you in for a c section to be honest but it might be that it's only just come about that you have a low lying placenta. I hope it all goes well whatever the outcome is 😊

thank you! I’m booked for the consultant and a scan on Tuesday so I’m sure they will make their decision then about c-section. It’s all a bit of a shock as everything so far has been fine and it’s suddenly been noticed! I just want baby here safely though whatever happens so I’m glad it has been picked up. Thankful the midwife who argued with the doctor to book me in for a scan today 😅 I hope everything goes well for you next week! 🤍🤍🤍🤍

@Caitlin aww that's good then, yes they will do it there and then! I bet it is, I kind of half expected I might have to have a section as I've known for a while about the low lying placenta but I'm so glad they have picked up on it for you as it can be dangerous to have a natural birth if the placenta doesn't move away from the cervix! Yeah definitely and they will be safely delivered! Aww thank you 😊

Did they say where abouts your placenta was when low lying? At 32 week midwife appointment mine has moved from high to low and my placenta is below my belly button and low laying from the growth scan and I've been booked to see a consultant in 2 weeks time but didn't get any information on how far away from the cervix it was or what it actually meant from the midwife

the doctor spoke to me and said the placenta is low lying but didn’t say where it is and they didn’t say in the scan either. I’ve looked at the scan report and it says placenta : anterior, low lying, less than 2cm from Os. It also says they gave me an information leaflet but they didn’t so I’ve just googled everything to learn what it means I think that’s why I panicked a bit when I got home! But I’m seeing the consultant on Tuesday by then I will be 37 weeks. My growth scan from the 30/10 says it wasn’t visualised so not sure when this has happened. I sort of feel the same that nothing was really explained to me but I see my midwife tomorrow so I’m more prepared with questions now

I was told I had a low lying placenta at 20wks, but it’s completely covering the internal os and hasn’t/won’t move (placenta Previa) I’m booked in for 30th Nov for a c-section.
If it’s low lying, there’s still potential for it to move, but if it’s too close they’ll opt for a c-section. It only needs to be 2cm away for you to be able to proceed with a vaginal birth.
Either way, they’ll make sure your baby gets here safely x
