does anyone know anything about retained placenta after a c-section and a medical negligence claim. i am finding mixed things online.
some sources say a retained placenta after c-section is medical negligence just by itself others say it can happen but i mean this piece of placenta was huge. i haemorrhaged after my c-section and they failed to diagnose retained placenta and take me back into surgery. 3 weeks later i lost a huge chunk of placenta and the hospital almost didn’t even see me not until i said that my sister whos a midwife said it looks like placenta. i took it into triage they left me till 3am before i was seen and they ended up losing it. they gave me antibiotics and didn’t give me a scan till a week later despite my GP demanding they do a scan earlier.
i was really lucky i didn’t get really sick having retained products for 3 weeks. because i was still heavily bleeding also i couldn’t manage small walks without getting very tired and dizzy.
i’d like to make a medical negligence claim but im not sure if im overreacting? my recovery was really drawn out and i had a very traumatic postpartum experienceD

Personally I would put a claim in, state everything on thst claim, like them losing your evidence, etc

Im 16 weeks pp and been heavily bleeding for 5 weeks after passing 3 insanely huge clumps of tissue and id been refused a scan as my uterus isnt swollen enough for 1 doctor to be concerned 🙄
100% claim you could of died at the end of the day

Was it confirmed in scan that it was placenta?

nope because they left it a whole week after i lost the placenta. and they of course lost the chunk of placenta.

@ellie 🤍 lost it, how convient of them, so what does it says on your notes the bit clots you lost where, also your sister is a midwife and witnessed this didn't she ?

If there’s no record of it then I’m not sure how easy it would be to make a claim. You’d also have to prove is was negligence - not saying not to try but personally I don’t think I’d want the stress of going through all that

Have you asked for a birth debrief? It may help you process what happened

ikr!
i have no idea what they have on my notes. they were very hesitant to call it retained products to me. all the midwife said is its not a normal blood clot as it wouldn’t pull apart. then after that it disappeared and the consultant never saw it. i have a picture and it certainly is placenta like it looks like placenta. yes i straight away showed my sister the picture and she straight away said it looked like placenta and she showed it to another midwife she worked with who agreed with her

Definitely more than enough solid proof, also showing by thier reaction and failure to be honest with you, they know they messed up, and are trying to cover it all up, it's hard to get a calim, but take it further even if you just get a full confession and apology at the least

Claim*

Ellie did you get any further with a claim? I had retained products which led to so many complications and in intensive care and its something people have advised me to do but im unsure

i havent claimed yet as i have 3 years to claim. i need to have a birth debrief first and get all my notes.
definitely make a claim if you feel thats what you would like to do. did you have a c-section? just retained placenta after a c-section is medical negligence. then failure to diagnose etc xx

hopefully you get a debrief sorted so you can get what you need. I didnt have a c-section, was searching for posts like yours and there wasnt many that came up
