Struggling

Hey everyone, I am 7 days postpartum and I am struggling so much with anxiety.

Our birth went well but baby girl had a mild case of jaundice due to our differing blood types and is a super sleepy baby. The doctors have now decided she’s just sleepy and it’s not jaundice related.

Because she is so sleepy I moved onto pumping and supplementing with formula to help with her jaundice. I’m hardly sleeping, I’m struggling to eat with my anxiety. I’ve seen my doctor for my anxiety but I think if I move to formula and can share the night feeding with my husband I might see an improvement in my anxiety. (I’m already sharing but if one of us can have longer chunks of sleep that might help me)

I guess all I’m wanting with this post is just some reassurance that if I decide to stop giving baby girl breastmilk it’s not the end of the world.

Hello lovely. I'm so sorry you are feeling so anxious, I felt the same with my first. At the end of the day, a happy mum = a happy baby. If you don't want to continue breast feeding and it's going to affect your mental and physical health, give her formula. Of course it isn't the end of the world and she will still thrive. My first was formula fed and second is exclusively breast fed at 9 months old. My oldest is so smart, healthy and thriving. You do what is best xxxxxx

Hi mama! I felt the same way with my baby boy. I give him breast milk and formula and my milk wasn’t coming in that much and I was getting hardly any sleep. I would get anxiety and cry because I felt like baby boy wasn’t getting enough and I almost gave up on breast feeding but I just kept trying and I love combo feeding and baby boy is healthy and smart. A fed baby is a happy healthy baby if you switch to formula. I know it’s hard being a first time mom the first month with baby is so hard. Mine is about to be 3 months and I’m getting the hang of it all. Try doing formula for a few days till you can sleep and work on pumping if you don’t wanna give up on breastfeeding.

Pumping and sleep deprivation is sooo f*****g hard!
I been there too and I had mum guilt but the more I pumped I wasn't happy and my milk kept dropping so I felt I had no control.
You do what is best for you and your baby. They created formula for a reason. Fed is best.
If you need to do formula for your own mental health then do it.
We can't be the mums we want to be if we're not looking after ourselves 🫶

@Krystal my wee ones 7 days old today to and im exactly the same as you. Birth went well, he had jaundice and is incredibly sleepy. Getting him to feed is an absolute task !
I wanted to breastfeed to 8 weeks but its so hard - my milk supply is good so i get a lot from pumping and my partner does most of the night feeds (hes always been a night owl anyway) so i can get a sleep. I am so determined to get to the 8 week mark before introducing formula but at this rate I'll probably last 4 maybe.
I cried to my partner for feeling awful about not giving him whats best but he and the others on this thread are right, baby just wants fed - they dont really care where they get it from.
You can do this and your own mental health is just as important so do what's best for you and thay will absolutely be best for baby ❤️❤️ xx

Definitely not the end of the world but I do worry that your anxiety won’t be cured if you stop breastfeeding. Have you tried talk therapy?

Pumping is the worst! Look, I have two formula fed kiddos and they are both healthy, strong, and smart as hell! Do what’s best for YOU. The best mom for your baby is a healthy mom, so put your mental health first. Everything will be okay.

Thank you everyone! It’s become obvious over the last few days that my anxiety is worse than originally thought. I’ve had to stop pumping due to medications I’ve been placed on. I need to get myself better so I can be the best mum possible

Baby clothes

Just out of curiosity, why do parents love zipper onesies?

Don’t get me wrong, I tried zipper ones it’s easy to zip in and out when putting it on the first time and taking it out, but I find it difficult when changing diapers especially when baby is asleep.

I prefer those kimono style buttons where it’s easy to button or too down button with crotch snaps.

Is everyone thinking the same or different? Lol

At this point I’m not enjoying motherhood

My 22 month old is horrendous at the moment🫣 biting, hitting, pushing, pulling and shoving not only adults but children he also wants what other children have and will just snatch it away from them.

We repeat ‘nice hands’ ‘be gentle’ ‘let’s share’ etc

But how do I make him understand what he’s doing isn’t very nice? At the end of the day I feel like I’ve just been saying his name all day and nothing else.

What can I do?

Dummy

My baby has had a dummy since about 2 weeks old (now 5 months) and over the course of the last month we weaned her off it during the day only for naps and night (which was fine) and then 5 days took it completely away during the day.

The first day no dummy was fine, the second bit rougher. But now it feels impossible she just moans and cries all the time it takes ages for her to go down to sleep (she’s always been an amazing sleeper)

I thought it was meant to get better as time went on not worse. I’m at my wits end I dunno what to do.

Currently typing this as she screams uncontrollably in the car and I cry with her cos I can’t do anything.

Of these two, which seems more overall “demanding” to you, overall? Lighthearted poll, not putting anyone down 🫶🏼

As a mum who breastfed for 3 years, I think formula feeding seems 100x harder and more demanding. I give those mamas all the credit because I could not keep up with that faff haha. I truly don’t understand why people say breastfeeding is more effort, other than the fact that no one else can do it. But personally I’d take that over endless bottle prep & cleaning.

Is this normal?

My 12m old is really funny with kids going near him, he’s always been this way, but anytime family’s kids sit next to him or head his way he moans or cries and moves away. He also really observes them and is never really relaxed, always looking over his shoulder. Has anyone experienced this? (He’s starting nursery properly tomorrow so hoping this helps) but is this normal?
