Induction Antrim Area

Hey I was induced in antrim in March, if I could do it all over again I would bring snacks because the food wasn't great and I wasn't up to eating big meals, a comfy pillow, noise cancelling headphones or ear plugs because it's so noisy, I would bounce on the blue ball the second they let me and I would being walking round the hospital the second they let me to get things moving, I would take a bath and I would bring some entertainment.

I had the pessary in all day Friday, all day Saturday and the the drip up on the Sunday morning but the Friday and Saturday dragged!

I didn't have a great experience but honestly that was my birth and it won't be yours, advocate for yourself and try and make the experience as calming and as peaceful as possible. I brought my own speaker for the actual birth and am so glad because there was a lady next door alot further along than me and her noises made me very anxious until I got the speaker up and going!

Oh and something I didn't realise was you're on the induction ward until you are ready to go into the delivery suite but once you're there the room is yours so do what you want with it, I had hypnobirthing prompts, scan pictures but if I could do it again I would bring more stuff to make it less clinical

I was induced in Antrim 3 weeks ago now and I couldn’t fault it whatsoever 🤞🏼 everyone was so so lovely and helpful. But yes take as much snacks as you can that’s the only thing I can say 🤣 xx

I was induced in Antrim August 22, and was due to be induced August 23, but went into labour the night before. My induction was straight on the drip because baby was ‘dry’- they think my waters had gone without me knowing.
The experience was long, as Dervla said, but positive for the most part. Giving birth is hard work, but the support was definitely there. I agree as Dervla said that you have to advocate for yourself; but they are a really kind team.
Bring your home comforts, and definitely snacks. A good few pairs of comfy knickers and pjs in dark colours. Bring your own pads. Theirs are abysmal and don’t stick properly 😆 and a water bottle.

I was induced there on Boxing Day and I have to say the whole thing was so positive. The staff were unreal from start to finish, I cry everytime I think about how caring they were. I second what everyone is saying, bring your own pillow, and day clothes like leggings, tshirt, fleece and flipflops so you can walk around every couple of hours but still easy to get in and out of bed for monitoring. They will feed you but snacks are helpful if you get hungry through the night, I got my husband to bring me up fresh fruit every day as the food was quite nice but not much fruit and I wanted to stay healthy ish. Also the induction bay is a bit hot and sweaty so I wouldnt bother with pjs, nighties only for me!

I'm being induced too on 14th if I don't go myself before then. Second baby but my first was born in causeway and it was a nice experience. I'm hoping for a water birth 🤞🏼

What about your partners what was the general consensus of how long they could stay with you etc? Xx

For me I gave birth at 2216 and my fiancee had to leave when they were moving me back to the ward but after the c section we got to go back the the delivery suite we were in and the staff were great, they helped him change the first poo bum and get baby changed and we got lots of have skin to skin etc, I think he left around midnight or shortly after x

They can stay with you all day on the induction bay and just have to head home over night. Its good as they can bring you bits and pieces, take you for walks but also head home and prep the house and get a good sleep to support you the next day. On induction bay he was with me 8am-9pm on night 1 and about 10am-11pm on night 2 as things were starting to happen. Called him back up at 7am on day 3 as my waters were being broken, he was there from then all day in labour suite so during drip and labour, baby was born 7.30pm and we were moved round to maternity ward just before 11pm so he had to go home then. On day 4 he could come to the maternity ward from 11am and stay all day- you are also allowed one other nominated visitor to meet baby during the shorter visiting times.
