Back to back

Hey girls, today at my midwife appointment I was told that it seems like my baby is back to back, I’ve got a growth scan tomorrow so they can also confirm. If it’s true and he is back to back what shall I do ? Has anyone else had this or given back birth ? I’m just so scared this is my second pregnancy and it’s been so stressful compared to first and now this, I’ve read that it’s more likely to be extra painful and higher risk of baby needing help like forceps and I really don’t want that. Can I request a c-section ? I am 38 weeks and 3 days pregnant

My baby has been back to back all the way through. She often turns though if I'm doing something on my hands and knees, like cleaning the floor, but then she turns back within minutes. I plan to spend a lot of my labour on my hands and knees to try and get her to turn and stay that way x

I've just found out baby is back to back too and I'm being induced in 2 days. I've been recommended to go on all floors and do exercises on the ball as well so baby can hopefully turn. X

My first was back to back. I was in pre labour for 48 hours before being in active labour. It was extremely painful and wasn’t able to eat, drink or sleep and constantly vomited. I also had no sleep before going in. I had asked for an epidural and ended up with an emergency C-section.

My second ended up VBAC unplanned but if they were back to back I wouldn’t have even chanced going natural again.

I’m sure you will be able to request a c-section but might be worth asking for techniques to try to get them out of back to back.

My recovery was 8 weeks with the emergency c-section.

I had my second baby back to back 2 weeks ago.

The labour feelings were different to my first, I had a lot of pain in my back.. but the labour was super quick 3 1/2 hours spontaneous baby came out facing sideways- not even a graze. (First labour 20ish hours)

I think it did hurt more than my last birth but I had home birth with no pain relief available whereas last time I had pethidine then the pool was available so not really a true comparison.

Baby was facing sideways at previous antenatal appointment just decided to turn the long way . Baby knows the best way out just trust them and try to stay mobile. Everything will be fine 💕

I had my 38 week midwife appointment today and was also told they’ve moved back to back which they weren’t previously. I was told to do figures of 8 on the ball, lean over the sofa on all fours, do light cleaning on all fours etc. Desperately hoping this will work to move them back as I don’t want a longer/more painful labour and their position is giving me back pain now which I don’t want for the rest of the pregnancy. Would also be keen to hear anyone else’s advice!

Thank you guys, I’m just really overthinking, I’ve been very stressed and just want this baby out and then being told this today I just can’t like it’s so hard already. Wish they would just take this baby out of me right now I don’t think I can go much longer

It’s not really that helpful for midwife to tell you baby back to back when you can’t really do anything about it.

Easier said than done but try to relax, trust yourself, your baby and your body that everything will be ok.
Baby is inside, we are not. they may be in that position for a good reason.

Also I read the above blog post the week before my baby was born and I think gave me a lot of confidence during labour/birth.

I definitely understand the overthinking - I’m the same and also feeling a bit stressed by it. I read online though that even if they’re still back to back when you go into Labour some babies will turn during Labour so it could all still be okay. You’ve got this ♥️

I really hope that is the case ❤️❤️❤️

There are loads of exercises you can do for better positioning of the baby that are proven to work, before and after labour, have a look at the spinning babies website

Look up exercises to do to help. During this pregnancy my baby was back to back all the way up till the day I went into labour. When I was in hospital I was lying on all fours on the bed with my bum in the air and doing a squat and sitting on ball doing rotations i think it worked as in my notes it says babies position was occiput anterior loads of time for baby to turn and most will turn during labour of their own accord xx

I was told last week by my midwife my baby is back to back, had a scan next day and it wasn’t. Even if it is they keep changing positions till even in labour.
Once confirmed if it is back to back go on all fours, snd there is other exercises you can do.
