I’ve just had my son’s 1 year review and been told to take the dummy away as it’s a habit and not a comfort. I’m willing to give it ago as my little one doesn’t fall asleep with it in very often but is 1 year old still too young to take it away?

i took my daughter’s away cold turkey at 17m. she did amazing. one big tantrum then she didn’t cry about it again
with my son, he’s almost 14m. i plan on taking his around the same time. between 17 and 18m. and the same way too. taking it cold turkey

If they don't fall asleep with it I'd just give it a go before they can ask for it 😂 we have it only for sleeps and when poorly so we are unsure when to do it

Thank you, I’ll give it a go he always had it clipped to him but normally puts it in his mouth when he’s playing or watching tv seems to be when he’s concentrating on something so I think I’ll deffo try taking it away completely and see how we get on

Lots of distraction may help! Or other teething type toys he can put in his mouth that aren't a dummy? I think we will try for naps first and see how that goes.

We went cold turkey at around 10 months and it only took around 3 days. You feel terrible at first but I’m so glad we did it! Xx

6 weeks... but only because he was rejecting it. He hated the dummy from birth. Looking back I'm glad, but he does use his fingers as a substitute!

We have it mainly for settling her and then she spits it out once she’s asleep so right now I’m not overly concerned tbh. If I notice she’s becoming more dependent on it then I may try stop
