Hey everyone just Need some help as I have noticed my baby is constipated. She has just turned 7 months; we started weaning at 6 with some simple fruit purées and cereal.. but today is the 2nd day as she didn’t do a poo and just earlier she started crying uncomfortably so I got worried and held her in my arms to comfort her but she seemed very uncomfortable so I put her down and cycled her legs and realised she was straining so I knew straight away it’s got something to do with her trying to poo, bless her. I checked her nappy and she did only a small tiny bit of poo, it wasn’t soft but solid.. after 2 hours again she cried uncomfortably as she was trying to poo again the same poo texture again. She has fallen asleep now and now I’m worried it will
Happen again … does anyone know what I can do to help her please? I guess after babies start solid it’s common for them to go through this as it’s their digestive system.. but 3 days ago I gave her mashed banana… maybe that could have caused this…

They say prune, pear or apple juice can help. The juices never helped with my son. I have to give him a prune puree once I start to see it getting harder and usually takes a day or so to soften again. Pear puree helped initially but not anymore. It was so bad at one point I bought the suppositories but didn't have to use them yet luckily. I've also heard putting vaseline on a qtip and just putting it in slightly helps. Also trying to give some water in a sippy cup.

thankyou hun will try that

Has anyone also tried fennel tea for babies?

Broccoli always works wonders too! X

My son is the same age and going through the same thing right now!! I called his doctor’s office this morning and they told me to try a few ounces of prune juice a couple times a day. They said to get it from the juice aisle and not the baby aisle so it’s not diluted at all!🤷🏻♀️ it’s so sad to see him in so much pain! 🥺

hey hun, aww yh bless it’s really hard to see them like this! Have you tried it already and seen a difference?
So any prune juice will help? But not from the baby aisle?

broccoli purée? X

Pears work a treat too. When we started weaning, the poo activity changed dramatically from what it was, and sometimes it would be 2-3 days between poos. She never seemed uncomfortable though. Just avoid things that bung up for a couple of days when it happens, things like pasta, rice, bananas etc and stick to high fibre stuff. It’ll all settle down once their systems develop a bit more and get more used to food in their tummies.

My 8 months old boy was also constipated for 4 full days and crying everytime he was pushing at least 4 to 5 times a day. I tried everything, from prune to pear to apple to water to warm bath to belly exercise and then decided to call doctors and they prescribed mild laxative that he has to take twice a day. He is on day 3 of the laxative and finally today he has been able to poo liquid. Until today he did managed few poos but all small and very hard. Sorry for the TMI. So if you're concerned I would give the doctors a ring to check it out with them if its time for laxative.
Hope your bubba gets better soon ❤️

I haven’t had a chance to pick juice up yet!! I’m also kinda worried on how I’ll get him to drink it…😅😂 & that’s what they told me! They just said the baby juice is super diluted and won’t work as well🤷🏻♀️

Maybe something like Enfamil's reguline would help? Prune juice is what I have always had recommended as well though. Good luck and hope your little one feels better soon!

Gripe water

Little bit of orange juice diluted with water works a treat, an hour after giving it my lo had relief

Or try the prune pouch from Ella's kitchen we have used that too

My 8 month old is going through this right now as we've moved up to 3 meals a day...I've been giving him prune puree in so many forms but his fav so far has been frozen inside of a teether pop

Prune puree and a warm bath! Might poo in the tub, but it’ll come out!

Happened exactly the same with my LO just yesterday. I gave her water and continuing to do so regularly now and it’s better. I was going to give gripe water but first thought of giving plain drinking water a try and it helped. I think we should give them enough water once starting solids so that this constipation issue does not arise.

you can buy purée if you like, I used to cook it until it was soft and either let my LO eat it was or mush it down❤️

Thankyou everyone! She’s fine now, I gave her some water to drink and made her pear puree, a few tea spoons of that alongside with fennel tea was a life saver! xxx
