Is there anything we should/shouldn’t be doing? Is it reflux? She’s still hungry after being sick so we feed her again, but it feels like we’re trapped in a cycle and she might not be getting enough from a feed. She’s only on 2/3oz because she’s a little baby. We’ve tried staggering the feed and trying to get her to burp halfway through, burping straight away after a feed, waiting a little bit for the milk to settle… she’s going through so many clothes and it sounds like she’s gagging at nighttime (assuming it’s the taste of sick on her tongue/stomach acid). If anyone has any tips then please let me know!

Is she formula fed?? It could be the formula not agreeing! Maybe try and switch xx

If your trying everything such as sit up feeding, bottle horizontal, paced feeding, sat up for an hour after feeds then go to the GP. My LO is 7 weeks and has reflux, we just got gaviscon and it’s working!!!

My first had really bad reflux and a dummy was recommended and really helped. The sucking can help soothe the throat (which may be why she acts like they want feeding again, to suck on the bottle/breast)

Pyloric stenosis?

we’ve had her on Kendamil since birth but she’s only started being sick after every feed for the past 4/5 days

we’ve given her a dummy as well and she definitely uses it for comfort but she spits it out a lot

ahh I was going to suggest kendamil! Tbh my boy is 2 weeks and he’s sick most feeds, sometimes needs topping up - I use expressed breast mixed with the formula and then if he needs a top up I’ll just use breast! Maybe try some infacol or Gaviscon!xxx

I’m going to try these and make sure my partner is doing the same

yeah I have infacol but wasn’t sure it was the right thing to give her! I spoke to the community midwife about it on day 5 as we thought baby is just windy. She gave the all clear but not sure if the spitting up is related

I have heard infacol can make reflux worse and the orange flavouring is apparently acidic?? Not sure though I just read it on here 😊😊

My midwife recommended burping before a feed as the spit up can be caused by gas.
Also paced feeding etc
I also give my 4 week old some cooked boiled water each day this seems to help with wind and also clearing her mouth, dehydration

My midwife said to also change nappy mid way through a feed (if they need it) As most wind comes from baby taking in air while crying either waiting for the boob/bottle or getting nappy changed. And it could milk coming back up with an air bubble. Not sure if that helps 😊

I would say reflux. My baby was like this nomatter what we did. So as per HV advise we put her on Anti reflux milk which is thicker and it has massively improved her feeding/sickness but not the reflux/mucus issue and also makes her gassy 🤦♀️. So im going down the GP route now to get her some treatment.

hey im at this stage now hoping for treatment for my 5 week old 🤞. Can i ask when you say its working is that the sickness or the actually refluz symptoms and noises have improved? Because gaviscon thickens milk (which the anti reflux milk is and worked great for sickness) but her noises and mucus etc is still there 😔

a lot less sicky, she seems a little more settled.. she’s quite noisy tbh but a little less I’d say, she normally is very loud in the night and she’s been ok (fingers crossed!!) .. my LO is poorly atm so is even more sniffly and mucusy 🥹 as long as they’re putting on weight .. I’d also check for allergies to cows milk or lactose too as my baby has both xxx

Ah thats great! My LG is at her worse laying down and after shes been asleep for a while at bedtime she wakes up struggling to swallow and gasping like its stuck in her throat 😫. I know exactly hpw she feels as i suffer badly with all this myself and have done for a while now- i take omeprazole myself. But during feeding/burping she is sooo gargly and splutters the milk when she either has a gas bubble or the crap in her throat- mot suprisingly when she spits up/possets during she clears it all out.
Yeh i will ask them to check for CMPA too but no other signs for that so far so 🤞

awww bless you !!! It’s so rough but we’ll manage !! 🥰hope you figure it out soon and your baba is better soon for you!🩷

yeh course we will 😊. Its just doubly hard as i have a 22 month old fiesty toddler to manage as well so a high needs baby (bless her) isnt the most ideal 🥲

you got this gall!!💗💗💗

We had this with our formula fed baby for weeks until last night. It was like someone turned a tap on, she was going through 3 outfit changes a feed etc. We were in the Dr's with her yesterday and they were going to prescribe omeprazol because gripe infacol etc did nothing. I realised last night that the Tommy tippee prep machine coincided when all symptoms started. We didn't use the machine last night and went back to using the kettle and the difference was immediate. We've had no extreme reflux since we stopped using the machine. Just a little spit up. I'm writing a complaint to the company. Just a thought in case you're using a prep machine.

I would say that's acid reflux. Either add gaviscon to milk or ask doctors if baby needs something stronger like 'omeprazole'. If vomiting is still the same, and not changed, it might be the milk, and there may be a lactose issue. If little one has formula, speak to the community nurse team about switching to lactose free milk. As far as I know, SMA and Aptamil come lactose free.

My baby had really bad reflux to the point I would wake up and her cot was soaked from spit up and sick in the night. Turned out she has cmpa. Since changing to a specialist formula she's like a new baby x
