Just out of the subject/topic of the group
Me and my partner are planing to get married in July
We are planing on having a registry office ceremony ( that we had to pay for) and after that we are inviting people to a pub nearby ( pay for your own meal/drinks )
Now my mother in law that is loaded with money, she thinks we are out of order by doing this? 😅
We are not getting married to show off, or anything like that
We just want to get married and with prices this days we can’t really afford to pay for 30+ people food and drinks etc
Especially just with my partner working and me being on maternity leave
Are we out of order? 😅

Not at all, depending on your relationship with your MIL you could just explain your reasons around the cost and that you’d rather your money be spent on your LO 😊 if she’s still bothered she can either pipe down or front the bill 😂

I don’t think you are out of order but I do think you need to make it very clear when inviting people that they are expected to pay for themselves. Maybe you could also ask people not to buy gifts x

we are in a good relationship, but sometimes I feel like she doesn’t realise how things have changed for us since we had the little one. I am feeling like getting married turns into such a stressful situation 😫 everyone has their own opinions on how it should be and what we should or not do. We simply want to get married and that’s it, without too much fuss 😅

we were going to tell people about it, obviously
And I didn’t think about asking them for no presents, that is a good idea ☺️ xx

I've seen it before where people have asked in lieu of gifts requesting to pay for their meal and attach a menu. Weddings are expensive and unless your mil is paying, tell her to back off 🤣 (in a nice way of course 🙄)

I don’t blame you at all. It’s already going to be stressful without adding to it. If I were in your position I would just be honest and talk to her about it

You could always ask for money as gifts then use that to pay back for the meals if you don’t want to ask people to pay for them directly.
We eloped and had to cancel our party due to covid, but we used the money we saved on the party to go to the Maldives for our honeymoon, my dad still refuses to speak to me about it 3 years later 🤣 people will always have an opinion but the ones that matter will say do whatever you want as it’s your day!
