I have what I consider to be a very active 8 month old. He started crawling at 6 months, pulling up, standing and walking aided by 6.5 months. So as you can imagine by now he is a fucking Olympian and wants to practice practice practice.
He has never ever slept through which is fine if he can go back down easily, but for the past 2-3 months he is waking and staying up for 2-2.5 hrs every night. It’s like he can’t ever go more than 3-4 hrs without fully waking and I have to bring him in with me otherwise he will hysterically cry. He crawls, climbs, grabs, slaps etc and the only way I can get him back down is simply allowing him to wear himself out. By the time he’s done playing he requires a feed to get back to sleep.
I already offer a ‘dream feed’ every night before I go to bed to make sure he’s extra full, so I don’t think it’s hunger. His wake windows in the day are generally 2.5-3hrs, 2-3 naps a day and are between 45-90mins long.
Is anyone experiencing something similar? Has anyone had this but found a way out?
I’m at my wits end.

I'm in exactly the same position! He's been such a busy boy, sitting up unaided at 3/4 months. Crawling by 5, pulling up at 6 and walking aided. Now he's 7 months he's started walking on his own too 🙈 he is exhausting and naps twice (sometimes three times) a day, and only ever for 30 minutes. I don't understand how he doesn't sleep! Max he's ever slept straight is 4 hours. I'd also like the help 🤣

I spoke to my friend today who was telling me about her little boy being exactly the same. She said she’d extended his wake windows and gone down to 2 naps. She said he’s been that exhausted he’s actually been going to sleep 30 minutes before he usually does and he’s been staying asleep. She said she also started giving him supper x

I would say his wake windows need to be 3 hours if you could push it and the last one 3.5-4 hours? My 7 month old does this and it has helped with his early waking issues but he is a good sleeper and it is defo a character trait whether they are or not.
And try 2 naps if possible. Are all 3 naps 45-90 mins long? Split nights can be due to too much day sleep.
Are you on 3 meals a day? Sounds like he burns a lot of energy. My little boy is like a sack of potatoes lol 🤣 he could teach him some things lol x

enjoy your sack of potatoes🤣 I feel like my lil baby was taken too quickly.
So his wake windows are generally 3 hours to be honest and he is mostly on 2 naps. The only reason he may have 3 naps is because 1. his nights are so inconsistent, he sometimes starts his day at 5 or 6am. In those cases he can’t do a full day without having the extra Power Nap. Or, 2. His naps have been very short (30 mins). He would never have 3 naps if his naps are like 45-90 mins long. Do you suggest stretching his wake windows even on the longer days and sticking with 2 naps? I run the risk of him becoming SO overtired.
We are on 2 meals a day with snacks. He’s not a big eater xx

thanks Emma! Maybe I’ll focus on trying to be consistent with dropping that 3rd nap of the day and extending the wake windows.
He has done 2 naps today and has just gone down which means his last wake window was 4 hours. I’ll be back to report 😵💫

it is hard enough chasing them around all day but to not get any respite through sleep at night just makes it awful. Sorry you’re experiencing the same.
I’m manifesting that one day our boys will just surprise us and sleep through!
One day they will be smelly toddlers refusing to wake up for school🙄🤣

Wow! You’ve definitely got your hands full . They sound SO similar. He is such an active boy. I hope we get a break soon😖
Having said that last two nights I’ve pushed his wake window to 4 hours and he hasn’t FULLY woken. I’m scared it’s a fluke but fingers crossed that it’s the way forward. X

oh I’m praying for you! X
