Hey everybody, my baby girl was born in November of ‘22 (so she’s currently 14.5 months) and I came to this group to ask if anybody has late walker stories to share with me because I’m honestly getting nervous.
She doesn’t stand on her own, she was using the push walker for a bit but she hates it again. When she does stand it’s for a couple seconds and then she squats down slowly to get on the floor. She does like shoes and we put them on her in the house and in public.
Then it doesn’t help that she’s tiny! Only about 16 pounds currently, 7 lbs exactly at birth (found at 1 year checkup that she has a lip tie that prevented her from breastfeeding properly). She has hit EVERY other milestone on time but I’m particularly stressing about this one because baby #2 is due May 6th and Remi will be 18 months on May 3rd. I just feel like I’m gonna be literally pushing the baby out and she’s gonna think “Now is the perfect time to take my first steps!” 😩😂
Please! Did any of you have a super late walker who cut it really close to the 18 month mark?

My son didn’t walk till he was about a yr or later I don’t remember but he had absolutely no interest in walking and then one day just woke up and decided that he wanted to run. He also was very under weight at his 1yr check up they thought he was going to be a little person because he wasn’t getting taller until just barley (he is 20Mo) he hated them walker and I have seen that Walker’s are actually not great for their development for walking so we gave him one of those push toys and that was his favorite thing ever!!

This is the most my daughter will mainly do with standing. She will sometimes stand by herself. She has the balance when she’s not thinking about it. She won’t walk though. Never really got to crawling with both legs behind her either. She is 20 months today. She will cruise like crazy around a playpen she has but won’t take steps on her own.

Also have a small LO. He's 19m now and all of 21lbs. He was 6.6 at birth. He didn't crawl until 11 months, didn't get his first tooth until 11m, and didn't walk until the day he turned 16 months. He only took a few steps that day and was full on running about 1.5 weeks later. He had no interest in walking at all- never held my hand, hated walkers. He was and still is very independent. I also put him in prewalker shoes a lot and he loves shoes now, always has, and has walked very well in them since the day he started.
I was so worried. I actually had him at his 15m checkup right before he took his first steps and requested a muscle tone evaluation and to be referred out to a pediatric PT. He was completely fine. He was just on his own time frame and wanted nothing to do with anything else lol. He barely even stood up unless he was cruising until he stood to take his first unassisted steps. I know its hard but try not to get too ahead of yourself. Some babes just take a little longer.

My Lo never crawled he HATED IT. We would practice and have me and his dad sit across from eachother and slowly move distance away from eachother while he took steps that is how he eventually started walking he also didn’t have a lot of trust in himself standing. She might just not be confident enough and scared to fall. Which is why having something stable to hold on to helps. We also would grab LO hands and run with him basically to the bathroom or to his room he wasn’t super able to keep his feet going at first but after a couple days he figured out how the legs work.

Also she is so freaking cute!! & that blues clues is to cute!!

Did she have an 18 month checkup? If so, what did the doctors say? I’m really hoping mine doesn’t do this cuz I can’t be carrying 2 babies around 😩

This is how she gets around now. Used to be more like a monkey with the arms to lean forward on and pushing off with the 1 leg but now she just doesn’t use any hands 🤭

Also I know you said she likes her shoes I would try letting her be barefoot that way side can feel the ground with her feet. We left little man barefoot and he did so much better to start out with. That is a suggestion that was made by our pediatrician & midwife they said being barefoot is best for their foot development and it helps them feel where they are stepping which can also help with walking. 💜

right now, they are just doing a follow up every month at the pediatrician and she is in PT once a week.

yeah she’s in shoes about 10% of the time. We don’t even really go anywhere besides church and the grocery store (I hate the cold so I avoid leaving the house in the winter lol). My boyfriend and I are renting my mom’s basement so she does crawl up the steps and she gets to socialize with my younger siblings (8 & 3).

Early Intervention told me they count walking as an 18 month skill. If she passes that maybe contact your local infant toddler program.

My may 2022 baby isn’t walking yet but he’s 99th percentile and the physio has been to check him and actually said that him wearing solid ankle boots would help him as he has extra weight to carry so his ankles need support . He crawls everywhere and does now pull to stand finally 🙈😭. I’m just hoping he walks soon as he’s so big and heavy to carry everywhere and barely fits his pram 😭x

My son started walking around 14-15 months he was doing the same he would pull up on stuff and squat slowly but no steps. I used to try and help him out but then he started doing it on his own when I wasn’t looking next thing I know he’s running😭😂! Don’t stress to hard it’ll happen! My baby was slim for a long time he just hit 24 lbs at 20 months he was 19 lbs forever!

The only thing I could think of when I saw your post , is the bluey episode where the grandma puts oil on the baby’s knees and says “well if she can’t crawl she will just have to walk” 😂😂
But honestly I would just try encouraging the push walker more , or holding their hands and walking with them , and then once they get more comfortable, going to just one hand and then they will see they are able to stand up with out support as much and it may encourage them to take a few steps with no help!! I hope the best and if not she will get it on her own time!!❤️

My daughter started walking at 16 months! I was so nervous starting around 14 months but once it started she took off. She will be fine she's just taking her time!

My baby was 3 pounds at birth and now she is 19 months. She works at 16month. Be patient hun

My son didn’t start walking until 17 months I think around 14 months they gave us a referral for physical therapy but I didn’t want to put him in, he was standing on his own he was just scared to walk he was even taking one small step but that was it.. right around the time I finally had caved and scheduled the appointment I was in labor with my second so I had to cancel the appointment. When my 17 month old visited the hospital he was walking, and he’s been walking ever since. Some babies are different and move at their own pace that doesn’t mean anything is wrong with them. My son is 20 months now and walking all over the place now my next thing is the talking I hope he gets it by 24 months he only says mama (rarely) dada baba hi bye-bye and thank you

It she’s not pulling to stand by 15 months ask for pediatric physical therapy. Although walking comes on its own time if they don’t start trying to move a little by 15-18 months then it’s recommended. My son is in pt before 14 months and it’s helped drastically he wouldn’t crawl or so anything now he’s 20 months and almost ready to walk it took time but we’re here and his therapy is now 2x a week which made a huge difference. She might have tightness but get the eval done anyway it’s doesn’t hurt and I’ve learned so much when you’re home tho my sons pt said no shoes unless you leave the house they need to be barefoot and stay barefoot as much as possible but don’t stress , I push for pt to evaluate and they will tell you if it’s necessary or not or if they need neurology to take a look at her which don’t let that scare you but sometimes if they don’t progress it can be neurological but that also takes time it wouldn’t be right away but it’s better to help them now before than later
