Ewan the Sheep

Hi ladies, I’m desperately trying to find aids to soothe my baby to sleep at night. She currently uses my breast as a dummy and screams the house down when she wakes during the night, in order to get back to sleep.

If you have Ewan the sheep, what are your experiences with it? Is it worth the money/ does it do the trick? Would love a little advice before investing x

I’ve just googled it and realised it’s similar to the dream egg sound machine I currently use! Completely agree it works a treat. Mine just doesn’t have the red light though which would have defo been more soothing! I’m hoping to find something more comforting thst she can hold onto xx

It does the job for us but I do think the quality is poor for the price. We are now on our 5th Ewan as the previous 4 were all faulty! His tail that you use to hook him around the cot has also worn through already.

One thing to also bear in mind is how much you'll spend on batteries as he goes through them at an incredible pace! We've ended up investing in rechargeable lithium batteries and a charger as we were having to buy new batteries almost every week.

We used Ewan for the first few weeks as it was gifted to us, but as said above 20mins just doesn't feel very long and it always seemed to turn off at thr wrong point, waking baby up. And the batteries!!

We now have a portable white noise machine which has some light options which is great and we leave the noise on low all night. LUMI | Portable White Noise Machine | 26 Sounds | Red Light Sleep Aid | 3 Night Light Levels | Sleep Timer | 20 Hours Battery Life | USB Rechargeable | Baby Sleep Aid | Sleep Sound Machine - White https://amzn.eu/d/hpTw0PC

Rockit Zed is a vibrating and red light mattress thing we've also had some success with, mainly used for the light.

we tried a variety of brands including Durcell Industrial! We probably still have a faulty one that's chomping through batteries 😔 although when I questioned the batteries with the company they said they only recommend using him with rechargeable lithium ion batteries because of how quickly he goes through them.

How often do you use yours? X

I just use an app on my phone called White Noise Deep Sleep Sounds and mix sounds fan with womb. It’s free and works wonders.

I use the Tommee tippee owl too ☺️ I think it takes a while for it to benefit them, I tried it when my girl was really young to try and get her to nap and didn’t think it did anything at all. Now I put him on during her last feed at bedtime and it definitely helps
When I wanted a constant one I just used Spotify on my phone and googled white noise and left it on repeat ☺️

We've got the lumi too and it's great as it's rechargeable and we leave it on all night as baby is a light sleeper

I had this issue but introduced a comforter instead as a sleep associate as my baby wouldn’t take a dummy and constantly need my boob for comfort during the night. We were already using the dream egg for white noise which we have since birth.

After a few weeks of him having a comforter and once he was out of the sleep regression, we then used the Ferber method to help him understand he can settle himself and doesn’t need me to settle him. I couldn’t believe it when he settled himself the first night after just 7mins and one reassurance check, he then slept 7hrs straight after which he has never done before.

He still wakes in the night to feed but only once or twice which is typical for a breastfed baby but not every 2hrs anymore as he can now connect his sleep cycles without me, it has changed my life.

Thank you so much lovelies!!! Your comments have been so incredibly helpful. I think I will stick to the dream egg portable sound machine I currently have as it’s amazing, but introduce a comforter alongside it. Making my own Ewan lol x

direct from the company. It was really disappointing! I did wonder if they'd been a bad batch or something. Same, I wondered if we were using ours loads more but doesn't sound like it x

The Ewan I have now has a sensor on it so it turns itself on automatically when he hears baby stirring. It’s literally been a life safer. I agree with the batteries, they die very quickly. We have purchased re chargeable batteries so it’s not an issue anymore.

Baby clothes

Just out of curiosity, why do parents love zipper onesies?

Don’t get me wrong, I tried zipper ones it’s easy to zip in and out when putting it on the first time and taking it out, but I find it difficult when changing diapers especially when baby is asleep.

I prefer those kimono style buttons where it’s easy to button or too down button with crotch snaps.

Is everyone thinking the same or different? Lol

At this point I’m not enjoying motherhood

My 22 month old is horrendous at the moment🫣 biting, hitting, pushing, pulling and shoving not only adults but children he also wants what other children have and will just snatch it away from them.

We repeat ‘nice hands’ ‘be gentle’ ‘let’s share’ etc

But how do I make him understand what he’s doing isn’t very nice? At the end of the day I feel like I’ve just been saying his name all day and nothing else.

What can I do?

Dummy

My baby has had a dummy since about 2 weeks old (now 5 months) and over the course of the last month we weaned her off it during the day only for naps and night (which was fine) and then 5 days took it completely away during the day.

The first day no dummy was fine, the second bit rougher. But now it feels impossible she just moans and cries all the time it takes ages for her to go down to sleep (she’s always been an amazing sleeper)

I thought it was meant to get better as time went on not worse. I’m at my wits end I dunno what to do.

Currently typing this as she screams uncontrollably in the car and I cry with her cos I can’t do anything.

Of these two, which seems more overall “demanding” to you, overall? Lighthearted poll, not putting anyone down 🫶🏼

As a mum who breastfed for 3 years, I think formula feeding seems 100x harder and more demanding. I give those mamas all the credit because I could not keep up with that faff haha. I truly don’t understand why people say breastfeeding is more effort, other than the fact that no one else can do it. But personally I’d take that over endless bottle prep & cleaning.

Is this normal?

My 12m old is really funny with kids going near him, he’s always been this way, but anytime family’s kids sit next to him or head his way he moans or cries and moves away. He also really observes them and is never really relaxed, always looking over his shoulder. Has anyone experienced this? (He’s starting nursery properly tomorrow so hoping this helps) but is this normal?
