Hey everyone,
Out of interest I asked the sonographer if she could tell the sex this early on (12 weeks). Obviously I’ve heard of the nub theory etc, but she said all babies look like boys at this stage? I am assuming this is because “nubs” look like they could be male genitalia?
I don’t want to find out the sex and kinda panicked she had told me the sex from that comment. I want it to be a surprise, am I reading into it too much? Wish I hadn’t asked her now 🤦🏼♀️

We asked the sonographer at my 12 weeks scan and she said sometimes you can tell the sex but they aren't allowed to say because all babies start off female 🙃

really i had a twelve week scan and she said it looks likely to be a girl. and i’m pretty sure all nubs are pointing downwards to begin with cx
Think she might have told us by accident, ooooops! 🤣

Yh it was I’ll be the nubs she’s basing it on by 90% of nhs sonographers don’t like the nub theory as it’s not accurate have u got ur 12 week scans? I’m really good at the nub and I’ll see if I can see the nubs( I won’t say what I think gender is if I do) x
thank you for your reply! I have a 12 week scan but it definitely doesn’t show a nub (the leg is hiding it!)
I thought I saw a potty shot on the screen and I was adamant there was something inbetween the legs! But from what I’ve read potty shots at this stage are far too early to determine sex. Is that right? Xx

Maybe they sure the nub in the scan doing or I’ve heard that sonographers and midwife’s etc can just say ‘he’s ‘she’s even when that’s not baby’s gender
Yes at 12 weeks it’s way to early for a potty shot they earliest is 14 weeks but even that’s pushing it, to have an accurate gender scan will be 16 week’s ( scan) that’s why 90% of uk private scan places won’t do it before 16 weeks and they check to see if baby is 16 weeks plus I know someone that thought she was 16 weeks +3 days baby was measured behind at 15+5 and they wouldn’t do the scan (2 days out) I hope that help
The only way to guess gender earlier is the nub theory ( which isn’t always accurate or the NIPT blood test u can get done from 10 weeks x
This is really helpful information, thank you so much!! Really appreciate your response 😊 xx
