It sounds stupid but it's been 11yrs since my last baby, so can't really remember much about the pain. But I never had braxton hicks with my 1st and 2nd.
My midwife said Braxton hicks is normally felt around the front of belly, not painful, just feels tight.....and i've been having this sensation alot since 32 weeks.
But I had menstrual type cramps in my lower pelvic/abdomen area and back yesterday for about 10 mins then it dissapeared for a few mins then it came back again and was like this till I went to sleep.
I'm 39+2

Also feeling exactly the same as you … 39 weeks + 1 I’m so confused …

Braxton hicks are more like a sensation. The belly is hard generally you don't feel pain in the back but you may feel discomfort in the front and it doesn't need to happen all over the belly. Contractions may start with a cramp but extend throughout the belly, concentrating on the peak in the lower belly. They have a cramping sensation at first and then feel more squeezed and hurt a lot. (my opinion) very different from braxton which are only uncomfortable due to the tightness of the belly.
