I was prescribed it by my doctor and I’ve been taking it every 4-6 hours as needed and I didn’t think anything of it until I just decided to look it up and realized it’s not actually approved for use in pregnancy. There is a very small 1% chance of heart defect and cleft palate, I know it’s small but it has me wondering if I should ask to switch to something else. My first pregnancy I was prescribed promethazine for HG and that worked great and is on the approved list of pregnancy safe medications. Anyone have any experience with this? I’m a little worried about taking it now.

Good question

I took it with my first and she’s healthy. I still have some left and take as needed.

I take it once a day or less and it’s a miracle cure for morning sickness. I was very nervous about it but talked to a friend who took it 2x a day through her entire pregnancy and her baby is perfectly healthy. I know the internal struggle but just use it when you need to give yourself relief. I determined the stress and lack of eating was worse for baby. Regardless of what I say, you know your body best ❤️

Thank you guys so much for your feedback, that’s kindof where my mind was at where I felt like being able to get nutrients outweighed the risks. I guess I was just shocked to find out it’s not necessarily approved! I think I’m going to just try to take it less if I can and hope for the best

Took it with my daughter from 19 weeks up until she was born at 36w. She was very healthy, and she's never been sick and hit all her milestones

I guess I should also add that I’m only 8 weeks and it’s considered safer after 10 weeks because baby is less at risk for birth defects after that mark, so here I am like do I suffer for another two weeks 🧐 I think not

it was approved but they pulled it about 5 years ago

I’m 8 weeks and dying of extreme nausea. I had this very same question, I’m trying really hard to get to 10 weeks.

I hadn’t heard anything bad about it until I looked it up! I guess it’s probably safe when taken as directed, and as above said I feel like it’s probably better to be on medication than not getting the necessary nutrients! It’s definitely helped but there are other options. I’ve also noted the negative side effects while taking it too, but none of them worse than throwing up and not being able to eat 😅

not for nothing, my doctor prescribed it to me without even seeing me no questions asked given my previous condition with my first pregnancy. So it makes me think how bad can it be?

Have you tried ginger shots? It helped me a lot

I did Unison and Vitamn B6 since about 5 weeks and I'm 11 weeks now. My OB told me he couldn't prescribe Zofran or anything stronger than that until I hit my 2nd trimester because before then it wasn't considered safe for the baby. The unisom and vitamin B6 did help, just didn't take the nausea away completely

I haven’t actually I’ve only tried the ginger chews! Do you just get it from the grocery store?

I wonder why some doctors will prescribe it and some won’t?! I’m really just hoping for the best since I’ve already taken quite a bit since finding out

I had my baby girl in April 2022 and took it while I was pregnant and she is perfectly healthy. Pregnant again and the same doctor prescribed it again and she said it’s fine and take it when needed

I buy them from whole foods or kroger they're typically with the smoothies or in the fruits and veggies aisle

Unisom and vitamin B6 complex is safest

I wanted to add and let you know I got some more info on medication that they use a lot in pregnancy for nausea. If you haven’t tried promethizine before if you continue to nervous about Zofran that is a good option. It’s a class b so a little safer then Zofran which is class c. There is currently no class a available for pregnancy nausea 😭 I’m going to ask my doctor about it this medication tomorrow

that’s what I took with my first pregnancy and it worked amazingly! I’m hoping I can get off the meds all together soon if the morning sickness passes 😅 thank you for the update!!

I took it with my first after 12 weeks it was the only thing that helped. My little boy was healthy 🙏 xx
