I’ve been with my boyfriend for nearly 9 years, and we have two lovely kids. However, he isn't the romantic type, whereas I love gestures like flowers, letters, and cute texts. I've come to accept this about him, but I still hope for something special on Valentine's Day, especially since we don't celebrate anniversaries. I've made it clear how much this day means to me, yet he seems indifferent. All I ask for is a simple dinner (with our kids) and maybe a modest bouquet of flowers. It hurts knowing it'll likely be just another ordinary day. Am I overreacting? It's frustrating seeing how much effort he puts into the Super Bowl party with his friends while overlooking Valentine's Day. He spends so much time and money on a huge party. Last year, he took us out to dinner the day before to avoid dealing with it. I'm torn about caring so much. Should I just let Valentine's Day be like any other day? Should I say something this year?
Ps I work long hours during the week. I’ll probably get home at 7pm on the 14th I’m the main provider

NOPE! You are not overreacting. I am going through the same thing and notice how much effort he puts into the things he cares about but not things that I like and it can be a simple as flowers. It makes me feel like he doesn’t care about me. I can give him a formula to make me happy and he still couldn’t solve it. I noticed he does what is expected like doing chores or getting me flowers when I am super upset and he is afraid I’ll leave. Point blank he doesn’t care. All I’m saying is know your worth. Especially if this seeps into other aspects of your relationship.

I've been in the same boat before together 11 years and now separated and never once got anything special, other in one year I got a mini rose plant. I just treated as another day even though I knew it'd still disappoint me....

Youve been together for so long so its typical for things to be less important because he inadvertently takes it for granted. You still want romance and he doesnt care about it. Thats not right but it just needs work like seeing a couples counselor or talking about what matters to you if hes open to it.
