Teat Sizes

Fairly new to bottle feeding - baby is 6 months in a week and he's had the odd bottle on occasion where I've had to be away without him.

We're now trying to bottle feed more though to see if it helps with his reflux.

I don't understand teat sizes - when do you need to size up?

We just have size 1. Is that appropriate for a 6 month old or do we need to size up? Are the sizes even based on age or something else?

Thanks from an overwhelmed EBF mum!

So, if they’re collapsing the teat or falling asleep on the bottle then size up. If not then you’re probably fine on the size 1 :)

We use lansinoh slow and still breastfeed too

We’ve had to change our baby’s teat size a couple of times now, we find she gets fussy or looses interest mid feed & then changed the teat and it’s much better!
She is also nearly 6 months and on teat 3 now however has always been formula fed so start off on 1 and see how you go, hope that helps x

I started on size 1 and my baby was becoming frustrated and wasn’t finishing the bottles, we now use size 3 and it works fine. I think it’s gonna be trial and error as every woman has a different flow so whatever the baby is used to

I started on size 0 teat MAM bottles which I wish I stayed on as was combi feeding. I moved up to 1 then 2 and baby got bottle preference because it comes out so much faster and easier than breast so they advise to stay on the smallest teat if you are breastfeeding as well x

thank you. Neither of those are happening so sounds like we're good!

we'll stick with size 1 for now, thank you! X

thank you, seems like we're good with size 1 for now still x

ah ok so he is becoming frustrated and isn't finishing them but he's also becoming frustrated and not having full feeds on the boob so I think that's due to his reflux and teething rather than the bottle, but that's something to consider. I might try him on a bigger teat in that case and see if it helps. I do have a bit of an overpowering let down, but I don't really want to replicate that as that can cause him problems.

ah great, that's really useful to know, thank you! I don't want it too fast either as he's already really chokey so trying to minimise that for him x

Should I be concerned or am I overthinking?

My little boy is 15 months old, he’s recently taken his first steps and he says mamma and dadda and baba (he has said these for months) we’ve filled out the paperwork for his 12-14 month review and it looks like he isn’t meeting many of his milestones.

He doesn’t copy actions, point, clap etc. He doesn’t react when being spoken to, or to his name. He actively avoids eye contact.

He was so unresponsive to sound that we just had his hearing tested concerned he was deaf. They found that he could hear so he is just choosing not to react to any noises or sounds.

Has anyone else had similar experiences with their little ones? Should I be raising this with the health visitor and ask to be assessed for neurodivergent issue or a social communication problem like autism?

I don’t want to just slap a label on him, but I do feel that there are real concerns. All opinions welcome!!

Routines?

When did you start to introduce your baby’s routine? Do they just have a night routine or full day routine? Wondering when I should start this e.g naps at the same time everyday.

Any routines you have that work for you, please let me know them with timestamps. my baby is 6 weeks and just wondering when we should start them?

Does anyone else’s baby spit up breastmilk but not formula?

I’m seriously considering seeing a lactation consultant because I don’t understand why he can’t hold down breastmilk but can formula. I use soy formula since I’ve used it with my daughter and I’m thinking it might be due to not getting milk coming in for a few days so I had no choice but to give him formula, but now even if I take breaks in between feeding him breastmilk to burp or try to mix breastmilk and formula, he spits it up sooo much. I’m ready to just give him just formula because I’m worried about him not eating enough

Bed time tips for 8 week old

So I literally cannot get my 8 week down to sleep before 11:30pm every night no matter how early we start our routine. We tend to do bath every second night but every night consists of feed, up to bed, into pjs, book, feed to sleep. We could start this routine at 7 and it would still be the case of not selling til 11:30.

She doesn’t nap during the day well, we get a 30 minute in the morning, and a 1 hour in the afternoon only if I’m out the house. She’s never distressed when she’s awake all that time, quite the thing being nosey and having cuddles. She’s EBF and her feeds all through the day are LONG and last from 30-45 mins each feed.

Any tips/advice recommended on how to get to bed earlier or just how to get her to sleep in general.
