Hello! I hope this is okay.
We are approaching her 6mo dr visit where we should get the OK to start solids and honestly I’m not ready!!!! I thought I had more time 😭 so I downloaded the solid starts app but I’m wondering about what kinds of dishes (plates, utensils, cups, etc) to start with. Also that fruit slicer and a crinkle cutter are sitting in my amazon cart. Anything else I’ll need for food prep? And any first food suggestions for a super anxious mom? 🥹 Maybe some softer textured things? What did you all start with and how did it go?
Especially looking for recommendations on starter cups please.
Another question I had is about high chairs. I have an upseat, but will that be okay for eating? I thought I read somewhere that high chairs have a foot rest for support if a child happens to choke, can’t remember where I saw it or how true that is. But should I get a high chair?
Feeling super rushed and not ready AT ALL!! So any tips welcome. TIA 😊.

Hi! I am trying to prep over the next few months for my little one too because I’m anxious about it all too! I was told to start with adding breast milk to some foods and to give finger foods that you typically would eat (healthy ones of course) for example if you ate toast with egg for breakfast cut them up into finger like slices for the little one but then again this is what I was told so I’m also following for info! Also I orders two sets of the doddle cutlery - the metal one for later on like 1 year ish, and the plastic one for 6 months time so she can play around with it until she gets better at using cutlery but I would like her to explore food obviously with using hands first! I think make a sheet of food to avoid before one like you should avoid honey I think etc, and another sheet perhaps for allergies stuff like how to safely introduce foods for allergies that way you can always have something to look into for reference when starting out! Also was told to give veg at first

I followed some pages on insta too but got a bit overwhelmed so I’m gonna extract all info I get and place them into a sheet to get not overwhelmed! Also I get some food ideas from here on this app actually that others post on the BLW group

this is actually awesome advice! I think I would do better/feel comfortable with some notes to look back on. And great tips too!! I’m going to buy a new notebook to start compiling info 🤣 this will also be great for when she has a meal with grandma and grandpa they’ll be able to follow exactly what we’re doing and i’ll feel more at ease.
Thank you so so much!!

Our baby has cups and cutlery etc but tbh she eats best if we just put the food directly on the tray on her high chair and let her eat with her hands!
For cups we've tried a few but I like this one best cause it's less of a spill hazard 😂
Munchkin Miracle 360 6+ Month 7oz Baby Sippy Cups (2-Pack). Free Flow Beaker for Toddlers. Trainer Cup, BPA-Free, Spill-Free, Dishwasher-Safe Baby Water Bottle with Easy-Grip Handles. (Blue/Green) https://amzn.eu/d/1sc60S3

I would recommend a proper high chair as the little bumbo style seats don't always position them correctly.
Get a couple of bowls for puree if you plan to feed puree or even soft things like yoghurt etc. But honestly I wouldn't worry about plates yet. If you are doing BLW or finger food just put it straight onto the high chair tray. We have only used a plate once or twice and even the suction ones end up on the floor.
For cups I recommend the Tum Tum straw cups or an open cup. Whatever you go with it should have a free flow spout / straw and not have a valve. The 360 ones are okay but teach baby unnatural sucking habits to drink - think about how we drink as an adult, either through a straw or an open mug / glass so these are the skills we should be teaching babg
