Hi mamas!
My boy rolled over the other day from back to belly at 4 weeks old. Really caught me by surprise. And I read that we should stop swaddling when they roll over so I did. But now his startle reflex is keeping him up alllllll night in a sleep sack instead of a swaddle.
Has this happened to anyone? Maybe it was just a fluke 1 time rollover? I hate to have him get no sleep now only because I’m scared to swaddle him….

He probably just rocked a bit too hard I’ve never heard of a baby rolling at 4 weeks

mine has been consistently rolling from belly to back for about a week now (he’s 6 weeks today) and we had to stop swaddling! it’s been hard because his startle reflex keeps him awake too, we haven’t found a solution yet! i have heard about babies having a fluke rollover at this age though!! could you try something like the halo sleep sack? i haven’t tried it but it may help since you can keep them a little more swaddled but not entirely!

My pediatrician said at this age it’s mostly a fluke from them still being so small that when they jolt themselves (or newborn crunch), they can accidentally roll over. She said once he weighs a bit more, it won’t happen for a while. Ours only did the belly to back, so we’re still swaddling but it would definitely make me nervous if he had done back to belly.

Hi, this can actually be from tension in the babies body. My little boy was the same, even in tummy time he kept rolling to one side and flipping over. I also noticed when he was sleeping his head was ALWAYS laying to the same side. We saw an osteopath and he sorted out the tension. I had quite a “traumatic” birth & he got stuck, so it makes sense. Its actually quite common if you had forceps or anything like that.
