Hi Moms,
My newborn is now 6 weeks old and not sure what’s happening but I’m getting intrusive thoughts regarding SIDS, it’s giving me such anxiety. Of course, I got caught in a tiktok rabbit hole and it just scares the shit out of me.
Did any of you have this feeling and what did you do to help ?
I have a feeling I won’t be sleeping much tonight because of paranoia.

I cannot recommend the owlet sock enough for peace of mind.

Sounds like you might be having postpartum anxiety. Make sure you have a safe sleep space for baby, no blankets, on there back, firm mattress, not too hot that kind of thing. Stay off tiktok for the time being and if it’s not improved in a few days touch base with your health care provider

Sorry, hit enter too soon. Recommend getting the one with a prescription from your doc as it actually alerts you to o2 dips. This being said, the intrusive thoughts are intense, especially newly postpartum. As someone with OCD prior to pregnancy, the intrusive thoughts got even worse for me. Dr. Google is definitely not your friend in these circumstances. Try to stay off it as much as possible and remember that while there's definitely scary stories out there, they are not a definite. Follow safe sleep habits and control what you can.

Owelet sock gave me so much peace and actually came in handy

I went through the same, my baby will be 2 months soon. The feeling has gone away with time, but I’d say a couple of weeks ago I was feeling the same

i’m feeling the exact same, tik tok has given me such bad anxiety about it! and i’ve also heard that the owlet sock has burnt babies feet, and that the snuza pico 2 is a better option. I’ve been a wreck the past few days i think im going to have to buy one too just for peace of mind 🥺

Omg social media has made my anxiety turn to anxiety and depression. I have so many negative thoughts and it’s killing me. I talk to a therapist. I can’t afford the owelet but I’m definitely going to ask around for it used in the community

Here to say Owelet sock is literally the thing that lets me sleep. Anytime I’m having intrusive thoughts before I fall asleep I remind myself “the sock will go off if anything happens”. I also went through my instagram settings and blocked all things about infant death because it was driving me crazy. My doctor also reminded me that one of the reason those stories get so much attention is because they are the rarer occurrence.

1. Get off Tik Tok, just because you are seeing stuff about SIDS frequently does NOT mean it will happen to you. Thoughts are not truth/fact.
2. Intrusive thoughts are a normal part of anxiety, which tells us what we value most. Try to acknowledge the thought for what it is and let it go.
3. If the thoughts get to the point they are consuming you, you are spiraling or losing sleep or becoming obsessive seek help sooner than later.
4. Make sure you get sleep! Sleep deprivation (although hard to avoid during the newborn stage) is only going to increase anxiety.

I use the Nanit monitor, and the Nanit wearable band that goes around their chest and that gave me so much peace of mind because there was nights that I had crazy thoughts like this, too, and it’s only thing that put me at ease

I would have never slept with either of my babies if not for the Owlet Sock! Never had any issues with burns or irritation, and never had a false alarm either.

My Lo is 11 months and that’s all I could have thought when she was born. Just make sure she has a safe place to sleep no blankets etc in the crib. Also make sure temp in the room is set properly. It’s always best if it’s a little cold so I always set it between 21-23 degrees. I had bought the owlet but it gave me more anxiety so I just got rid of it and didn’t use it at all. I also made her sleep in her bassinet next to me in my room until she was 6 months. But it does get better trust me. Don’t go on tik tok and start looking at the videos. I also used a sleep sound machine so she didn’t go into a deep sleep either. But try not to stress I know it’s hard not too but try and get some sleep. As long as baby is safe things will be fine 🙏🏽

Tiktok did the same thing to me, had me scared out of my mind. Like they said practice safe sleeping habits and try not to worry, easier said than done ik, my baby is 7 weeks and the first few weeks I was nervous about everything! It gets better for sure!

I said the same thing in another post this morning socials are evil stay clear equals happier life lol

I hear you
I’m very nervous about everything myself
Every little thing I seem to be blowing up out of proportion
Thank you to all of you, what makes me happy is seeing a bunch of women in their 30’s give advice and some words of wisdom. What a beautiful community.
