Ultrasound tomorrow!

How much water did they tell you to drink? We’re you able to drink it all? They told me 32 oz but I wasn’t able to drink it all before. I was thinking I can drink 28oz in an hr. Any suggestions for me.

Usually the full bladder is needed for transvaginal ultrasounds only, in fact for abdominal they need it empty. My instructions for the 20 weeks scan specifically say to empty my bladder. In any case, I never had issues with just drinking a small bottle of water and not using the restroom for 1-2hr.

I’ve always heard the opposite. But I’ll just try to drink some. I mean the bladder only holds 16oz

Avatar

ah actually my bad, you’re right, it is the opposite. Well, I’m really confused by my instructions now, lol

Mines tomorrow too, they told me not to drink any

For me, it was the opposite. For the abdominal, it is best if there is water in there. But when she was about to do transvaginal I was asked to empty my bladder. Even when I thought I didn't have to go, she checked my stomach and said I have fluids in there so go empty it.

yay so exciting also lucky you. I’m going to struggle for all this water

I was asked to drink 24oz in the hour leading up to my appointment

Avatar

that sounds like a much more reasonable amount. Vs 32oz in the hour beforehand

Avatar

I mean drink want you can that’s all you can do but as close to recommended amount if your bladder is anything like mine you’ll be wanting to pee straight after 😂😂

Avatar

They just need your bladder full! I drank 64oz in the 2 hours before my first appointment and they said that was overkill!

Avatar

They didn't tell me to drink any water or to keep my bladder empty I got zero instructions for my 20 week scan.. 🤷

I definitely think 32oz is over. I am not going to stress about it but do at least 20oz

I am so confused. I am high-risk due to (IC) Incompetent Cervix and PPROM. I've already had 11 ultrasounds, and I'm 19 weeks tomorrow. I have never been told to drink water before having an ultrasound done, I drink tons anyway but.....they always have me drain my bladder as soon as I check in before any scans are done. I go to (MFM) Maternal Fetal Medicine every other week. I have both: the transvaginal and the regular scan done every time. Transvaginal to check my cervical stitches (cervical cerclage surgery done at 14 weeks) and the other to check baby girl and everything else. I also go to my OB 1 time monthly, and they also have never told me to drink before hand, just pee before going back. What is the purpose of having a full bladder rather than an empty bladder during an ultrasound? I have never heard of this, just curious as to why. I am going to ask next time I go in for my anatomy scan. I am very interested now to know now. 🤔

from my understanding the bladder is in front of the uterus so when it’s full it gets a better picture of baby. But you wouldn’t need your bladder full for a transvaginal because you are there.

All my appointments come with directions prior to appt and they say 32oz. Even in my previous pregnancy I just made sure I had a full bladder…when I got bigger it was literally so uncomfortable holding it with that much fluid 😩😩 so I would try to do like 16-20 oz at least and never had an issue. It’s extremely hard I totally get it!

Avatar

that’s how much I’m going to try for. Because I struggle with my first pregnancy.

Avatar

it makes the ultrasound hard when your bladder is in pain 🤪 I’m like running when they tell me I can empty it hahaha.

Avatar

I didn’t worry about that, I just drank water normal & it’s always enough for ultrasounds.

Induction?

Anyone been induced before? Was it more painful? Better than thought? Worse than thought? Worth it? Thoughts?

Induction or c section?

As a last resort, would you rather be induced or have a planned c section?

Really not liking the thought of being induced from people’s experiences I’ve read!

Almost 37 weeks + told to do another growth scan

I just had my second to last doctor’s appointment this morning, and my OB told me she wants me to do another growth scan because my belly is measuring small. She says it’s probably just because I’m a smaller woman, but they like to be safe. It’s hard to hear though, since I just did one a couple months ago.

I did this with my firstborn around this time of pregnancy, so I do think I just carry smaller (even though I don’t feel like I look “small” at all). My first baby was 6lbs 15oz when she was born at 41 weeks + 2 days. I’m having this baby at 39 weeks on April 7. I hope she’s still at least 6lbs.

Anyone have any stories similar to this?
