HPV and Pregnant

I have never had an abnormal pap smear my whole life, until my last one that I had done at my OB appointment last week. It came back abnormal and detected HPV and I'm absolutely terrified because I'm 10 weeks pregnant. They want me to do a colposcopy to get a further look. I know I should do it, but just overall I am absolutely terrified. I don't want to lose my baby. But I also don't want to find out that I have cancer. How did I even get this if I've been with my husband for almost 10 years and never had an abnormal pap smear before! Does anyone else here have any experience with this while pregnant? I went down the Google rabbit hole and I'm absolutely terrified now and afraid to lose my baby 😭 Please give me some advice and reassurance 🥺

Everyone is a carrier of HPV when I was younger I had a abnormal Pap smear and it detected HPV when I just had my Pap smear and my OB appointment it came back normal. It will clear up on its own and they just want to test. It’s perfectly normal.

It usually goes away on its own. I wouldn't worry too much until you have the appointment. Think positive! I have high hopes for you that it's nothing serious 🤍

I messaged you. Thank you.

thank you. I will try my best. Just super nervous and scared. I should know better than to ever look things up on Google. But when I saw my test results were abnormal, I had to know what they meant 😑

I had something similar in that I got an abnormal smear test the first test I had after pregnancy - I think they said that the changes to the immune system during pregnancy allowed the HPV to become more active when previously it would have been suppressed. Also, in the UK, I think they have only relatively receny started for checking for HPV specifically as part of the test (don't know about other countries).

Anyway, had the colposcopy to check and everything was okay. Had to go back the next year and everything was back to normal to the point they didn't need to do another colposcopy.

They want to do their due diligence and check, just in case because with these things if there is something knowing earlier is better, but it is a common-ish thing that happens.

I had an abnormal Pap smear this time too…

HPV is often dormant for years, so you've probably had it a long time. But as others have said it's fairly recent that they test for it in the UK too.
The colposcopy is fine and if they find anything abnormal they'll usually remove it there and then.
HPV does not equal cancer, it just means you have something that could one day lead to it if left unchecked. The absolute best thing to do is to have your colposcopy to assess where things are. They won't do anything that would harm the baby.

I had HPV detected years ago. At my colposcopy they removed the abnormalities there and then. All my smears since have been normal

Like everyone is saying HPV is normal and you probably have had it for years. Mine laid dormant in my body for years. I have had to have two coploscopies and they both came back normal. Please don't worry about it too much. Get the test done as quickly as possible to put your mind at ease. Everything will be fine.

Thank you all for your kind words. It does help me to know it's pretty routine and just a precaution. I talked to my mom and said she's had to go through it too, but not while pregnant. That part makes her nervous about me needing to get one done while pregnant. But she said hers always came back clear and it's not something that runs in our family. I do have an appointment with my OB on March 13th, and the colposcopy is scheduled for April 5, the soonest they could get me in. Going to talk to my Dr at my next appointment and just explain my own fears. Thank you all.

I came across this naturopathic doctor when I got my first abnormal pap result. It was interesting hearing her take on the virus.
Praying there won’t be need for any further interventions and the rest of your pregnancy will progress smoothly 🙏🏽

Is this little red bit on my section scar normal? It’s not oozing anything, doesn’t hurt but it’s the only bit on my scar like it so just curious! (19 days PP)

Anyone else felt like this?

Hi, I’m 4 months postpartum, little one sleeps through the night and is formula fed, the last week I’ve felt extremely tired and very hungry! Just wondered if anyone else has felt this way/experienced this?

Pregnant with baby 2

Hi everyone! I gave birth via emergency c section 9 months ago as my baby boy was measuring big, he pooped inside so there was risk of him inhaling it and I wasn’t progressing past 3cm to have a natural birth and now I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby. I’m having a consultation on Tuesday to talk about birth options and to have any questions answered but I don’t know what to ask. I feel like it would be safer having a c section again but at the same time I don’t want a c section. Does anyone have any question ideas I could ask or any advice/stories of similar situations. Tia

Hey what are your current symptoms?

I’m 37+5

I’m pretty mobile still but anything over a hour or 2 and I’m in discomfort

Getting up from a sitting position is hard

Some of baby’s movements now are bordering on painful especially around my crotch/pelvis

I’m exhausted very easily and nap every single day

Can basically only breathe out my mouth now and I’m snoring and dribbling 😂

Standing in one leg is very painful 😂

Some waves of pain/ tightening but I regular and mild

Low period type aches

And I feel like a fire breathing dragon with this acid reflux

My nose is growing 😂

My fingers swell slightly and go numbs in my sleep so that and constant toilet breaks keep me up ( checked swelling with MW and consultant and all normal, not a worry)

I also do not want to be social in person like I’d rather everyone just be my penpal atm lol

What are your symptoms?

Fatigue

I had a GP (it was a woman) tell me she’s never heard of fatigue or exhaustion in the first trimester and that my body shouldn’t be tired from “making a few cells” - she asked if I was depressed and if I wanted to keep the baby/if it was planned and was kinda blaming me on not getting out of bed enough. I’m usually a very busy person, who is always on the go. All my bloods have been coming back okay, but the exhaustion is next level. I said it just feels like I’ve had the flu for the last 6 weeks. She said well is it the flu? That I should be energised and never heard of women being so exhausted before. She was very rude and just feels like it’s my fault I feel this way.
