How long do you breast feeding sessions last?

Baby is 8 days old and usually feeds between 6-15mins and can go up to three hours between feeds. I’ve been visited by a breastfeeding support thing today and they’ve advised sessions aren’t long enough baby should be feeding between 20-40mins… she gave me some tips and baby did feed for 30mins but for the life of me cannot get baby to feed longer than 15mins since! Baby is happy and content after feeds so I’m unsure at what’s right or wrong and I feel awful at the potential she isn’t feeding long enough. Might be worth a mention she only lost 3% of her birth weight in the first week! Thanks in advance x

It sounds like you have a good supply going so I’m not sure why they would advise for that long of a feed lol. I would try pumping for a session to see how much you’re getting so you have an idea of how much baby is eating in those 6-15 minutes. Other than that it sounds like you and baby are doing well so I’d ignore that advice honestly 😂

Babies are supposed to lose weight in the first week because of all the fluid leaving their bodies, they will gain it back gradually over the next week. Your baby doesn’t have to feed for 20-40 minutes at a time, baby will let you know when they want a feeding and for how long. I would just continue to follow your baby’s cues as long as they are content and seem satisfied after feeds.

Your baby could feed from anywhere between 5-45 minutes at a time but mostly when your baby has a short feed they are more likely want more feeds during the day then their normal but all baby are different and your body makes how much your baby wants or needs

I was told a similar thing. What I do now is offer one breast, when she detaches naturally ill change her nappy and then offer the 2nd breast. She will now feed for between 20 and 35 minutes combined, and sleep for about 3-4 hours, which is such a blessing now her growth spurt seems to have tailed off, when she was feeding every. Blooming. Hour. I was exhausted but pushed through x

my baby is similar. She is 12 days and feeds between 6-12 minutes and go up to 3 hours. I was told the same to increase the session length. What were the tips that they gave to increase the feeding time ?

When my daughter was first born she would feed for 20- 30mins she was getting use to the boob, now she feed between 5-16 mins! I talk to other moms & they say as the baby gets older they know how to empty it faster I tried to get her back on but she just pop it right out that shows me she is full,

When I breastfed my baby never really fed longer than 5/10 mins but gained weight beautifully.. don’t worry

Also I think the duration can change as they grow, mine started on short feeds, a few weeks in was doing 30 ish mins and now ranges on the shorter side again! Although you’re lucky with the stretches I swear my boy has an internal alarm set for 119 minutes 😂

when baby comes off the nipple wind and put back on when they latch use breast compressions to help them get milk easier so they don’t tire so easy! I’d just be careful as she was so so fussy after that long feed as if it was too much for her belly x

When did you circumcise your baby?
If you DID NOT or DO NOT have a circumcised son DO NOT comment this post is not for you!

Did you wait a certain amount of time or have it done immediately?
Again respectfully, this is only for the parents who choose to do so.
opinions about how not necessary it is will not be appropriate for this post. Thank you in advance. 🩵

Can someone pls help i keep making this post and nobody is responding

My boyfriend booked a trip for us to go to mexico for a week as my push present. I have severe anxiety leaving my 7 month old with my mom. I know she will be in good hands but she’s exclusively breast fed for the most part but accepts bottles just fine. i have all my pumping parts packed and will pump when baby normally eats but i don’t want baby to forget me or have latch issues when i return!! any mommas ever experience this?

Postpartum

I’m only 3 days postpartum (FTM) and already have extremely bad anxiety. I’m crying every night, as I think of another night of no sleep. My baby will not settle in his cot, he cries every moment we put him down unless in his chair rocker. So me and my partner are having to alternate after 3/4 hours of being awake with him downstairs. I’m trying everything to get him to settle. It’s a load of overwhelming stress. I’m 23, I was desperate for a baby and now I have one and feel completely useless. I miss it just being me and my partner.

I feel like just a milk cow

Hi I have a 16 day old via c section, I'm a FTM never having been around babies before as I am the youngest of my household and from a small family. My husband is fantastic with our little one. But ever since I've had the baby I just feel like the only thing I'm good for is producing milk. I feel disconnected from my husband like the only reason he's around is because am producing milk. We were having some issues before the baby and we're struggling it took a while to feel like he was onboard even though he said he was from the moment we found out. I dunno if I'm feeling like a spear part because I'm lacking confidence with baby or because I feel like he wouldn't mind being a single dad. Is this postpartum hormones or something else?

How long did it take for your child’s circumcision to heal and you could give him a bath?

I’ve just been wiping him down with a fiber wash cloth but I just wanted to know from others experience on how long it took

Guilt

Does anyone else feel guilty for every little thing they do? I feel like I need to be entertaining my little one at all times. If I have to put her in the activity center to finish a task, instant guilt. In the car for too long, instant guilt. Replying to work emails instead of interacting with her, instant guilt. I know independent play is good for her but my brain thinks otherwise. Please tell me it gets better, I’d love to shower for more than 10 minutes without it feeling like the world is going to collapse.
