I haven’t Breast pumped or breast fed yet but I read that means it’s clogged. They sell a vibrator to break down the clumps. I got it but I’m not due till the 8th.

Try massaging in a hot shower. Babies are way more efficient than pumps so bubs might be best to drain it once your able to start moving it.

I've also never tried so would be a Google job, but I'm sure I read cabbage leaves can help?

You’re engorged and pumping might actually make it worse. You need to message it and use warm compress and try to have baby unclog it. Cabbage leaf helps with the pain. It will subside. But if you’re pumping on top of having baby get on the breast it’ll create more milk and get your boob more engorged

Highly recommend a Hakka to relieve engorgement pressure. As it’s not as intense as a regular pump. and this supplement from Walmart or Amazon. It thins milk to help those knots dissolve. Agree with the hot shower recommendation and massage.. Put baby to breast as much as possible. My lactation consultant told me about the sunflower lecithin. They do sell heated breast massagers that work wonders to help massage as you work out the knots after shower. Or while pumping.

Use a Hakaa only, don’t pump. Pumping will make more milk. Your body is overproducing right now coz it doesn’t know it you got a single, twins or triplets lol so by you pumping, you’re signaling to your body that baby actually needs more milk than he’s taking. At the beginning of a feed, stimulate the nipples and catch in Hakaa. Use a warm compress and massage the boobs often between feeds. It’ll regulate in a week and fully regulate to baby’s exact needs in 4-6w

In the UK the guidance is now to cool rather than warm up engorgements, and silicone pumps are deemed too aggressive here (because of their strong intense suck) when you're just establishing breastfeeding so they recommend hand or electric pump expression.

You've been given quite a lot of mixed information and some of it is wrong

You're experiencing engorgement. It's very normal in the early postpartum days. You don't need to "empty" the breast as such. Pumping (including using a haakaa) will cause an oversupply this early on. You could hand express a little if needed

Engorgement (and blocked ducts) are inflammation. The treatment for inflammation is ice packs, ibuprofen and very very gentle lymphatic massage.

Don't use massagers. Yes they're sold and aimed at breastfeeding women. It used to be the advice, but the protocol has changed and using those is too hard/firm and likely to cause further inflammation.

You could use heat before a feed and ice afterwards, but generally ice is preferred

I'm going to back this up with sources (ibclc certified lactation consultants info)

The haakaa uses suction to stimulate your supply. It's not passive and it definitely does more than collect let down

Use a warm rag to help it…. I had that same issue and I used a warm rag which helped a lot

Definitely try a hot shower and massaging it, I had exactly the same. It took a little time to break down but was solid. Did work though. Hope you get it sorted x

My mom told me after having me she had to squeeze some out when she went to take a shower because she was backed up as well she said it helped her so maybe try that see if it helps

Avatar

try the haka , different positions with baby

Avatar

This happened to me the other day. Ice in between pumping or feeding and a warm washcloth with gentle massage on the spot that was clogged while I was feeding.

Avatar

That's a blocked duct. In my experience only my babies have ever been able to clear them. Relaxed sleepy night feeds are most effective. If you can't clear keep a close eye because they can turn into mastitis, which may need antibiotics from your gp

Have you tried a massager like this? I have an oversupply used it a lot especially in the first few weeks postpartum. Basically to massage as I’m pumping (with Medela or Momcozy) or collecting (with a Hakaa manual pump) so I don’t end up with clogged ducts. After 2 months postpartum I was able to regulate my supply and didn’t really have the engorgement issues anymore https://amzn.to/3Tgq4sA

Leaky nappy help

What nappies are you using to stop leaks?? We use pampers ultra dry size 5, and for the past few nights he has lashed through and we’ve had to completely change him during the night. Last night he leashed through twice!! He sleeps on his front and stays leaks through at the top of his leg where the tabs connect. Didn’t know whether to size up, he has a bit of a belly on him but he’s smack in middle of weight guidance so shouldn’t need too

New born

Finally had my baby girl via C-section on the 18th, everything has been so far. But I’ve noticed she’s very fussy and cries a lot. I’ve been trying to exclusively breastfeed. The lactation consultant at the hospital said I did look like I’m making enough milk for her. She was latching on good at the hospital and now here at home, she doesn’t seem to want to latch at all. She’s been crying a lot and very fussy. I’m just wondering is she’s colic or like maybe she just doesn’t want the breast anymore?

5.30am wakeups 😫😴

My 15 week old has started waking up about 5.30am and is really hard to settle back down - it’s like he thinks it’s time to wake up for the day. He used to go to bed at 9pm and was up at 8am but now he goes to bed between 7.30-8pm as he’s knackered by then but waking up at 5.30am😴. Any advice to get him to sleep a little longer in the morning?! Even an extra hour would be lovely 🤣
