My baby is 10 weeks and is BF with just 1 bottle of EBM at bedtime from dad. Lately he’s been fussing at the breast. He’s quite clearly wanting to feed but just kicks off when I put him to the breast. I calm him down and eventually he does go on. We’ve never had this problem before. Anyone have any advice?

My little one has started doing that recently too (she’s 10 weeks) it’s usually when she’s tired, needs to poo or is gassy - sometimes burping helps, she’ll often do 5+ burps lol, and keeping her upright for a bit and walking round seems to settle her enough to finish her feed and have a nap. But we have introduced a dummy for the times that none of those things help (I think she’s also teething as she’s been dribbling a lot and biting down on my nipple)

Hey, I’ve had the same issue on and off since about four weeks (baby is now ten weeks). Mine is slightly different though, my baby usually feeds for a bit before he starts screaming. I have no idea what the issue is but I’m suspecting it’s due to reflux which can cause babies discomfort while they feed. It can also be due to a position issue or if the baby isn’t comfortable when feeding, you could see an osteopath as they can help with this. It can also be due to oral thrush, not getting enough milk or getting too much / forceful let down or can be due to a tongue tie as they might not be able to latch on properly. I sometimes think my baby cries at the breast when he’s not hungry but wants the comfort, so you could try a dummy if that’s the case.

My LB does the same and has done since about 7 weeks (now 13weeks). I’ve worked out he’s either got wind or is overtired & needs to sleep. Doesn’t happen every day but always seems to be around 4-6pm so also around witching hour x

My little girl is 9 weeks and has been doing the same thing for the last few days. Gives clear hunger cues and will search for my breast but as soon as I try it give it she freaks out and starts wiggling around and crying.

My 11 week old started to do this and just on my left breast if I tried to offer it first. He would be fine if I offered it second. I went to a group with my local feeding team this week and they said it can just be one of those things! They’re growing constantly and things are different and that could be it. They recommended I tried different positions to see if they helped and it did, but was less comfortable for me. I would recommend seeing your local feeding team if you can. Speak to your health visitor and they should be able to point you in the right direction

Thank you all. I have noticed he does have wind 4/5 times. He’s just so unsettled I feel like I’m doing something wrong. X
