Single working mums

So I’m currently a single mum working full time and I have a 2year old. I’m out of the house Monday to Friday (7.30 -18:30).
He doesn’t get to see me as much and I feel bad. This week I didn’t work and I noticed how happy he was with me being at home.
Im thinking about cutting down my hours but then that means less money. I don’t get any financial support from the government and if I was to cut down my hours the money they’d give me wouldn’t be enough. So I’d be taking a great Financial cut back.
But then children don’t remember how much money you spend on them, instead how much time you spend with them.
What would you do???
Do you think single mums with little ones should work full time??

It’s very difficult! I’d say I’m in the opposite situation and at home 24/7 with my 2 and 5 year old, but I’d love to go back to work but physically can’t right now due to my son being SEN and being at school one hour a day, financially I’m not in the best situation but they don’t care we make it work and they are happy, but I will definitely be going to work part time when I can I think it’s best for both to have a balance ( if that is an option for you) I’m putting off my 2 year old going to nursery for selfish reasons as I will miss her ❤️ kids won’t remember at this age if you are at work but if it would make you happy then maybe go part time

Can you work from home? I work in investment banking and I make sure I wfh a few days a week even if they hardly like it 🤦‍♀️. I work hard 70-80hrs weekly, a lot in the evenings when he’s asleep. I would say that’s the best scenario if you can wfh a few days and I am presuming he’s not in nursery and at home with someone looking after him. You can go out to the park before you start work, use your lunch or anytime to have your lunch with him! And in the evenings you can do things together.

I don’t have the option to work from home as it’s patient facing work I do. And it takes me just over an hour to get to work.
He is currently at nursery 2 days a week ( I feel bad that he is the 1st one there and the last to leave). The other 3 days my sister has him. By the time I get back from work I only get about 2hours with him before it’s bed time.

I try to spend as much time with him on weekends but the weekend goes soo fast.

This morning I woke up to use the toilet the usual time I wake up for work and he got up and followed me to the bathroom, grabbed my hand and told me to go back to bed. 😭

Oh I feel you. Ours does too. Two days a week. Glad your sister helps. My mum does and it’s lovely having family assisting. Could you look for another role that may be hybrid? I don’t know what role exactly you do but perhaps there are options on other roles within your company? Also, could you ask if you could finish a bit earlier a few days a week and I know commuting ain’t easy. Maybe 530 if you work through your lunch hour? Or come in later specially if you do admin work the first hr. As a career woman, I would always strive to find a balance, I know you don’t want to lose any money either and don’t blame you. What about working 4 days a week? Are you working 40 hrs a week? Perhaps asking for every Friday every fortnight off so 2 days a month might work and you get a long weekend with your son. Ask away any questions. Am part of the women in finance network where we discuss similar challenges women face.

yeah I’m thinking about doing 40hrs across 4days so I can get an extra day with him at home. But then it means I’ll be out the house from 6.45 - 19:00.😭 but then I don’t know if that’ll be too stressful for me.
I’m a cardiac physiologist there is currently no option for remote work. Honestly it’s so hard to find the balance between being a mum and a career woman 😭.

He has no respect for anything to do with me.

Husband and I decided to separate 3 days ago. I've been sleeping on the floor in the kids room, and we both have to stay in the same apartment for a while. He wont stop pushing little things and I am reaching my limit. Photos in comments

Toddlers

How often are your toddlers asking for food? My oldest who is 3 just finished a whole plate of food and not even 10 minutes later he’s requesting more food. I know he’s going through a growth spurt, but how do you respond to this.

Is this normal?

Is it just my husband that does this? He is able to work from home via his computer and in the mornings and evenings he is on there doing his job. When he is done for the day he tends to stay in the room and either play video games or watch something. He will occasionally come out and play with the girls for a few minutes and that’s it but when I really need him he says he is busy. My daughters are both 1 year old now and I am just wondering how much involvement should he have with them now?
Idk if this is the norm or not…..

Saying NO to buying toys etc

5 year old is getting really envious of others. He is obsessed with items that other kids have at school. I am pestered daily to buy these things in a different style when we already have 3 others. I have seen parents just buying stuff their kid likes which I don't necessarily agree with even when i can afford it. How do you deal with it?

Identity crisis?

Am I the only sahm who feels like they have lost their identity??? I don’t make money for my family, when I used to make great money. But I refuse to drop my under a year old baby off with strangers.
My husband works so much. But I have no control over bringing in money and I’m a control freak type of person! I feel l like I’m losing my grip because we are kind of broke, but day care would only eat up my income anyways! So what’s the point. I’m a workaholic and now I’m just a twitching bum.
I wish I could work from home but so far that’s a fake dream. I’m almost 9 months pp, and I just need to know these awful mood swings and depression will end soon! Send wine!
