Going out anxiety

Is anyone else stressed as I am when they go out with their newborn? My daughter is 6 weeks old and I am stressed every time I am out with her. My husband drags me out for a change as I am locked up in the house all the time. tI get stressed about how to handle her if she cries etc.

Anyone else shares this feeling with me?

Yeah I am the same my girl is 6 weeks Wednesday, I try and just push myself for walks with the pram and if I do go out I keep it short and try and do it as soon as feed/burping and nappy change is done this as helped loads as that’s when she is most settled and will sleep the majority of being out! But you’re definitely not alone in feeling that way 🫶🏻

Yep! I echo Simone’s approach to getting out and about- also make sure you have a bag with all the essentials so you can feed and change baby when you’re out so at least you know that if those two things are done and baby is crying then it’s either wind, wanting to be held or overstimulation x

Thanks for the advice. Ill try and brave it and do the same x

Yes can’t leave without the essentials. Sometimes over do it!

same here- it is terrifying thinking the baby is going to blow every time you go out so I completely get it. My husband ‘forced’ us to go to a couple of cafes during the first month to prove to ourselves that even if he cries, nobody’s going to bat an eyelid because babies cry and it’s normal. We found a cafe that had a lot of babies and toddlers (and a few whiney dogs, too!) so was full of noise- highly recommend finding somewhere like that as it really does help x

I’ve been taking mine out since she was 5 days old, now she’s 4 weeks I make sure we make it out for at least half an hour every day.
I would say the best way to combat anxiety is to force yourself to do it. Start small: 5 min walk outside in the sling, for example, and then work from there. Always have a bag packed with everything you may need for any kind of situation, including your baby’s red book just in case.
Honestly, having some fresh air every day is so good for your mental health during the early days. I hope you get there x

my husband did exactly the same to us. Took us to a cafe to ‘test’ and see how it goes and improve confidence. It was a noisy cafe and people actually wanted to see the baby instead of looking annoyed to my surprise. I was just soo stressed the whole time. She started crying and i decided to leave. Didnt finish our drinks!

Avatar

well done for doing it! The first cafe we went to, we asked for our drinks in take away cups just in case little dude kicked off 😂 I’m sure we’re not the first parents to be worried about our babies screaming the place down and we definitely won’t be the last! ☺️ x

thanks. Thanks for the encouragement. I really need to start doing this. I also have anxiety of her catching a bug/getting ill by going out in public! I know its silly. What is weird is that my personality is exactly the opposite of being anxious normally. I want to chill out but my brain isnt allowing me to do so x

Omg i am exatly the same i never really go out because i worry and its cold out there ! But feel it would probably do me sone good!

this is me!

Avatar

@Sally i am the same 🙈. I am so worried because is cold outside so I don’t go out at all. My baby is 5 weeks and the only times I’ve been out were with my husband at midwives clinic. Still haven’t gone outside with baby alone, so anxious and afraid something might happen.

this is so refreshing. Im glad to know am not the only one. My husband thinks im being irrational and he tried to support, but I cant help it. Im going to start to let loose a bit and be brave.

Avatar

wow till 2 years! Im hoping i am relaxed by then. But i get what you mean, we just want our kids perfect dont we!

Avatar

yes! I keep saying the same thing. The cold weather and everything. Maybe this is natural that our babies are winter babies?! I guess slightly different to summer babies. To be fair, there are lots of illnesses and diseases going round this time of year, which is why i am avoiding even visiting family (even my own parents who have young grand kids living with them)!

Leaky nappy help

What nappies are you using to stop leaks?? We use pampers ultra dry size 5, and for the past few nights he has lashed through and we’ve had to completely change him during the night. Last night he leashed through twice!! He sleeps on his front and stays leaks through at the top of his leg where the tabs connect. Didn’t know whether to size up, he has a bit of a belly on him but he’s smack in middle of weight guidance so shouldn’t need too

New born

Finally had my baby girl via C-section on the 18th, everything has been so far. But I’ve noticed she’s very fussy and cries a lot. I’ve been trying to exclusively breastfeed. The lactation consultant at the hospital said I did look like I’m making enough milk for her. She was latching on good at the hospital and now here at home, she doesn’t seem to want to latch at all. She’s been crying a lot and very fussy. I’m just wondering is she’s colic or like maybe she just doesn’t want the breast anymore?

4 month bed time

What time do you put your babies to bed?
What time do you start your 'routine?'
My LO currently goes to bed around 10.30pm, and I know i need to start bringing it forward. Everytime ive tried, it takes longer for my LO to settle.
We are exclusively breastfeeding. Any advice Mamas?

5.30am wakeups 😫😴

My 15 week old has started waking up about 5.30am and is really hard to settle back down - it’s like he thinks it’s time to wake up for the day. He used to go to bed at 9pm and was up at 8am but now he goes to bed between 7.30-8pm as he’s knackered by then but waking up at 5.30am😴. Any advice to get him to sleep a little longer in the morning?! Even an extra hour would be lovely 🤣
