Visit a lactation consultant, maybe she’s having trouble latching due to a lip or tongue tie

Both my babies had a tongue tie and this is one of the signs! You can ask your midwife to refer you to the tongue tie team or visit a breastfeeding clinic, they’re usually such good help. I found that doing the rugby hold is easier for babies with tongue tie too. X

Hi hi just wanted to say this is totally normal! I have a 6 week old and I totally remember feeling stressed the first week because it felt like latching was really hard. The paediatrician just told me to keep insisting, and this was the best advice. In fact this works for most things, remember the baby is brand new to the world and they arent just learning a new skill of latching but coming to terms with being in a new world altogether! I would try to listen to the hunger cues and avoid starting the latching process when they are already crying. Mine usually puts his lips in an ‘O’ shape and brings hands to mouth, also starts moving hands and legs and making little grunts, that means feed me. If you wait until they cry they are more anxious and it is harder to latch. It is a really really good sign they latch 50% of the time and it’s absolutely normal for it to be hard sometimes so don’t dispair you’re doing amazing!!! ☺️☺️
