My in laws are great grandparents, despite having issues with the way they speak to me sometimes. They ask a lot to have our baby which is fine with me, we don’t always say yes but often it’s nice to drop her for an hour so I can clean etc. They always say “bring xxx for an hour so you can get things done”. They rarely have her for longer.
They have a dog who quite frankly is spoilt, not my issue but when they bring said dog to our house baby’s toys always get ruined. Once or twice I can handle but it’s constant and to her lovely wooden toys 😩 they asked us to look after the dog all day so they can go out. I wouldn’t want to but we appreciate them so said yes. The time keeps getting extended though which is frustrating 🙄 then we get a text an hour earlier than the latest agreed time to ask if they can bring the dog now because it’s raining and there’s not much to do in this weather? Well yeah, what do you think we are going to do? I asked my partner to say no because neither of us were ready plus I’d like to delay the chaos.
Am I in the wrong? I’m not like fully annoyed just a little irritated by it but still wondering if it’s just me & I need to get over it

I wouldnt like anyone ruining my baby’s things. I think you are being way too nice. Do they HAVE to bring the dog? is there a reason dog cant stay home alone for a short time? You’re completely right to be annoyed xx

I think it’s over stepping a line asking somebody with a baby to look after their dog, no matter what they do for as it isn’t tic for tat and also they gain by you dropping their grandson to them so it’s not a ‘favour’. I’m pretty firm but I’d being saying no to that full stop!

I don't think you have any obligation to them or that dog! Especially since it's ruining the toys. They should want to watch your child to bond and love, not to trade services. Tell them no, suggestion a dog sitter.

Oh my god!! I have a baby and a dog!! It’s a nightmare with toys, the dog thinks they are his and eats them all mostly wooden toys and balls! We have an area to play with the baby and the dog isn’t allowed around there but now my toddler is 2 this month and he himself gives him some of his toys! I completely understand your nightmare! Just say you can’t have the dog around for too long as he’s destroying or picking babies toys and you can’t have that as you don’t have another area to play! They will understand
