Maternity leave with twins

Which pregnancy week did you start maternity leave? I was planning on 31-32 weeks with my DCDA twins but Twins Trust said many people go at 28 weeks. I'm getting very tired so wondering if I'll last to 31-ish weeks and should bring it forwards a bit but also don't want to go back to work when they're still so small next year!

A lot of people carry twins to full term, like 50% at least so unless you have other medical issues happening plan on going full term! It will help your mindset because the third trimester is very hard 😅 I quit working at 32 weeks and delivered at 37.4 days after being induced for 4 days due to high blood pressure. They were not wanting to come out even at almost 38 weeks 😂 I am now a sahm so I didn’t do maternity leave

I started at 36 weeks with the expectation of a 37-week induction. I got 12 weeks off, so it worked out.

I think it depends really on your job and how your pregnancy goes. I went on Mat leave Tues and gave birth in Fri (exactly 37 weeks planned section). But I have a desk job wfh and had no complications (v lucky I know)

Yeah I agree depends on the job you have and how your feeling .. your body always tells you when it’s feeling Run down etc.. I went off at 30 weeks because I had a very demanding job then my twins came at 35 weeks due to preeclampsia

Hi Lydia, MCDA twins in Canada. My last day of work is planned for 31.2 weeks. Currently at 29.2. I sit in front of a computer all day though. But I think this will be the right timing for us

MCDA twins aiming for delivery at 36 weeks - I'm starting my maternity leave at 31 weeks to give myself time to prepare. I'm already struggling with back ache and I'm 25 weeks today. My last day at work can't come fast enough! 😂 Xx

I finished work at 38 weeks and omg was it hard 🙈🙈🙈

Thank you so much lovely twin mammas 💗 This is reassuring and what I was thinking. I have a desk job so not physically demanding but the job is mentally draining and can be quite pressured so I think my plan stands. I hope they stay put until the planned delivery at 37 weeks so I get some rest, hopefully with some nice but not too hot British weather 🤞🏼🤭 x

So with my twins I had them at 30 weeks. I worked my entire pregnancy and since they were still in the NICU I actually took my maternity leave when they came home. So within a couple days of delivering two babies vaginally I was back at work

I was only allotted 4 weeks, the twins came home in a few weeks and I proceeded with my leave. It’s honestly hard to gauge it because never did I think I would be working again in a few days after birth, but I fixed things so they worked better in my favor. If I took my leave to heal, I wouldn’t have had time to bond with my babies when they came home.

I am currently 24 weeks and suffering with back pain I am planning to go on leave at 32 weeks pray for me lol

I’m currently 27 weeks MCMA twins, I’m finishing at 30 weeks as they are being delivered at around 33 weeks. I’m tired all the time so can’t wait to relax for a few weeks before the boys come 💙

I’m 25 weeks with MCDA twins, I’m going on Mat leave at 28 weeks - mine are going to be delivered at 32 weeks due to SFGR so I wanted to make sure I’d have a few weeks off beforehand. My first born arrived at 37 weeks which was just before I’d finished work and I was NOT ready! Also I’m already so tired and comfortable so don’t think I could go much longer anyway this time!

This is all so surprising to me. Both my boss and I assume that I will work until they greet the world. I can work from towards the end if needed, but I was hoping not to start maternity leave until 36-38 weeks at the absolute earliest.

I’m pregnant with DCDA twins and finishing on the 28th March. Booked in for a c-section on 8th April when I’ll be 37+2. I’ve been fortunate to work from home the whole pregnancy so definitely feel it depends on the type of job. I think I would of struggled to commute everyday!

@Tessa hi Tessa, a lot of us on this group are in the UK or Canada. The leave is longer, maybe that’s why. If you feel up for it, you can totally work until then.

That helps clarify. Yes, I don’t think I will have the choice but to work until my body forces me not to. I get 12 weeks but at a reduced pay. Then my husband will take 12. We don’t have daycare available until March 2025, so we have to make it! Good luck to all you other ladies and take care of yourself first when you can!
