I’m 14 days pp today, baby doesn’t latch without nipple shields as has a severe tongue tie. My breast pump broke on me yesterday morning so haven’t been able to use that.
However I’m wanting to stop expressing/feeding now.
Haven’t pumped since yesterday morning but I’m in agony so got my haaka out tonight and used that, only got just over an ounce out in total and it’s helped the swelling in my breasts go down a little.
But I’m in so much pain. Not sure if I need to not express completely or still keep doing it. My breasts are so swollen and sore. Even touching them is agony. I don’t want to develop mastitis
Any help before I literally chop them off? 😂

I didn’t breastfeed and my midwife advised to just leave them alone completely and it will pass after a couple days
I know this is advised if you’re formula feeding from the start and haven’t stimulated any milk to come out. However with me expressing/feeding for a while I’m wondering if I need to go about it a different way. Don’t want to get blocked ducts etc

I was in a similar situation to you and was told by my midwife to avoid pumping but to hand express the minimum amount to make it bareable and that amount should get less and less over time, it seemed to work for me! Xx

Bless you, I know it is really uncomfortable but the best thing is a good fitting bra. Don’t touch them/stimulate them. And take paracetamol and ibuprofen for the pain and swelling… also a hot/cold compress can help. They should ease in a couple of days as your hormones will stop the production and your body will reabsorb the milk.

You should slowly reduce pumping by 1 feed at a time to prevent developing mastitis.
